Vanishing Tides 9 (A Reckless Decision)

Red tries her reckless best to get back her friend..... but will it work with all the crudity involved?
A RECKLESS DECISION:
Takshak knew that the four older warriors were hiding something but he had no idea as to what. Red and Sherry thought it best to tell Takshak about Almond in the absence of the two new comers who slept throughout the first day. The next day everyone woke up a bit early. Red did not sleep much. Sherry busied herself in the kitchen with Cleo. The twins were glad to feast on the delicious lunch. Red had a fake smile plastered on her face throughout. Almond was not at the table and Takshak asked Red pointing at the empty seat, "Where's Almond?" Red elbowed Sherry who replied on behalf of Red, "Uh... he is... he is sleeping. He had a headache." Takshak nodded, clearly dissatisfied. Cleo asked Tess and Zhi, "So how did you like the lunch we made?" They both smiled when Tess said, "We are glad that we were received well. Thank you." Sherry said in response to Tess, "We have to live like a family even if we are with each other for just a few months. We have to fulfill our purpose, the one which God gave us." Sherry was very mature, very responsible. Zhi was not as cheerful as Tess but he managed well. Cleo and Sherry took care of them till the evening while Red briefed Takshak about what had happened. He was shell shocked to hear that Almond had lost one of his powers. He told Red that there was no immediate remedy for him and that they would have to wait. He would have to go through the history of the warriors or if somebody even had powers like him. Red more disappointed than ever took Takshak to see Almond. He was just as she had left him, still, pale with slightly bluish lips. She had tears in her eyes before she left the room. Takshak said he would try his level best to figure out a treatment for him. Red nodded her agreement. Sherry and Cleo told Tess and Zhi everything they needed to know. Zhi seemed to understand more than Tess. Both of them were more like Siamese twins. They unpacked their stuff and soon went for an afternoon nap owing to their long journey. Tess talked a lot. Zhi tended to be on the quieter side. Takshak with Almond's state on mind met the two in the evening. Except Almond, all of them were there. Red unwillingly left Almond in his room to go for introduction. Tess and Zhi arrived earlier than the others. Tess was wearing a black dress with floral patterns while Zhi wore a yellow shirt and white pants. Cleo came after that and tried to make them comfortable. He chatted about the latest movies with them. They immediately took a liking to him. He told them about everybody else's powers. Takshak had sent him to do that and he was more than happy to do it. Sherry first went to message Red to come down and then joined Cleo. Zhi understood that Sherry was blind the moment he saw tried to follow her gaze. Tess found her beautiful in every possible way. Red came along after some time. She sat quietly with them when Cleo took her aside and said, "Listen Red! I understand you are worried about Almond but try to get yourself together. You might be harming yourself. Almond wouldn't have wanted that." Red shot up and asked him, "What do you mean?" Cleo bit his tongue and said, "Almond and I are very close friends you know and the things he does not tell you, he tells me...." Red tried to put on a smile and joined Sherry. They were discussing the latest fashions in Paris when Takshak walked in from the door saying, "The weather's wonderful. If we finish this fast we can go to the sea for some time." A cheer echoed and then Takshak said, "You must have come to know about your team members by now. Except one, whom you may meet later on. So, you can tell us about yourselves." Cleo looked at a ready Tess and a hesitant Zhi. He said, "Ladies first! Right, Zhi?" Zhi nodded, relieved. Tess began, "I'm Zhi's twin sister. I like designing dresses and my powers are control of water. It complements my brother. I'm a whole lot more talkative than my brother. I hope I'll leave this person as a better person." All of them clapped after which Zhi began, "I... umm... I love listening to music. My power is complementary to my sister's. I control fire. I can generate fire and cause great destruction." He seemed frustrated when he said that he could cause great destruction. Following this Takshak explained to them the way they had to proceed. The moment the meeting was over all of them went on the beach. Takshak said to Red who wasn't in a mood to go, "I think you should go out for some time. Don't worry; I'll come up with a solution sooner than you think. Go out. Let the breeze take you in its lap. Run along." Red heeded him and was on the beach. She walked alone without her iPod. Now was the time to think. The waves lapped at her feet the wet sand felt cold underneath. She wished Almond too could feel the breeze the way they all did. It was drizzling. The wind carried Tess's sweet voice as she sang for Sherry and party. She couldn't help but envy Cleo alive and kicking. Almond! He had taken the strain of coming to save her in the dimension of souls. Even if the situation wasn't the same, Red wanted to repay him for his efforts. How? She leaned against a freshly painted pole that supported a swing. Red faced the ever battering rain in anticipation of rain drops. She found it strange - to stand in the first rain of the season and not melt away. Tears and rain mingled and fell off her face. Her heart hoping she would be finished with the rain. To flow with the rain, through the furrows in the sand to join the sea. She longed to get lost in that huge water body. To get absorbed in the rain. Absorbed? Yes! That was the cure. She would make Almond absorb a part of her soul. He would then come back to normal making the team complete. Almond would be saved! Her problems would decrease. Tess and Cleo were dancing in the rain as Sherry and Zhi looked on. Zhi was glad Tess was enjoying the rains. Red slipped away inside the house. Sherry noticed a faint disappearance but did not pay much heed. Red skipped two stairs at a time to reach her room. She changed her dress, dried her hair. She left her own room unlocked and walked quietly into Almond's room. He was still asleep. She smiled for the first time after a long time. She sat next to him for some time. She was a bit hesitant at first but then it had to be a firm decision. She did not know if it was firm or not but she sure as hell knew that this was a crude way of doing things. Red reached for his hand and approximated her palm with his and said, "Take it Al. You need it more than I do." She concentrated hard and reached the dimension of souls. Almond was there too, asleep. She shook him and woke him up. He took her hand and said, "Don't disturb me, girl I want to rest." It was as if he understood all of a sudden what was going on. He tried to move away from her, pushing her hand away. He moved further into the darkness saying, "No Red! Don't do it. Please Red...." Red advanced forwards looking into Almond's scared eyes. He was shaking badly refusing to let Red get anywhere near him. Red said, "Listen Al! Without you I find no one to share my thoughts with. I don't want to lose you again. It scares me to death you know." She was talking so calmly, without any regret that she was going to cause a lot of sorrow to the others. Almond still groping in the darkness to run away but he did not have the strength to run said, "You'll be hurting the others, they need you." Red smiled softly as she caught his hands by force and held it firmly, "I do care about them but right now it's more important to prove your notion that nobody wants you wrong. So watch me do it. Now take it... you need it more than me." Almond felt a warm wave flood him and again and again.... He saw Red smile and then she disappeared. He left the dimension of souls as his body felt warm and the color returned to his face. He knew he had got his soul back. He also knew that Red had no control over the amount of energy she was transferring. He had to wake up, lose contact with her hand for a moment so that the connection would break. He managed to open his eyes after trying hard for some time. He felt a hand over his head and another in his hand. Almond took away his hand from Red's as he felt her slump on the pillow next to his. She was sitting on the ground with her head next to Almond and no one was there on the first floor. Before he could make any effort to get Red to wake up he too fell deep into the valley of slumber. He knew Red was there next to him and she had saved him from obvious losses. Red was reckless, extremely reckless.
