Vanishing Tides 12 (Traitor)

Tess has been rescued. The warriors return home but something confuses Red....
TRAITOR:
Tess struggled to push her brother who seemed to drown in the water towards the bank. She could feel the current of the water rise. There was nothing she could do to control it. In spite of trying her level best her powers were spinning out of control as she lashed out at the water front ahead. She had to get to the shore. There was a huge fall up front. It was a beautiful site for those on dry land and a painful death for those drowning. She felt her energy seeping out as she looked up, the insides of her eyelids hurt as she looked at the sun. She had to swim. The only problem was that her body was no longer listening to her. She could hear only the rushing of water around. Where was Zhi? She saw a pointy looking rock peeping out of the water. 'Out of the way', she thought as if the rock could listen. Her head smacked very hard with the rock and she felt blinded by the pain. It was almost as if by force that a tide brought her down on the rock. She felt something thick trickle down her face. It was blood. Tess was screaming but no one could hear her over the roar of the river. She saw a log floating and tried to cling on to it. Within minutes she felt herself tumbling down the fall. Her eyes closed as her head started throbbing badly with pain. The blood made her even more scared. She was falling... falling....

"No Zhi, I don't mind. I gave him a piece of my mind. Don't be angry.... Zhi!" She saw Zhi lunging at the guy in front of her who had been her best friend till before the last half an hour. Zhi screamed and opened his balled fists to let out a fiery ball of light. He fell to the ground, shaking at his own deed. He was scared of what he would see next. When he looked up, Tess was on the ground her toes burnt and that boy standing at a corner, howling in pain at being burnt. His clothes seemed burnt his hair was burnt and it showed clearly. There was a scalding mark on his left hand. Tess was in much greater pain as she had used her powers to stop Zhi from hurting a mortal. She woke up a few minutes after the blast only to see some older guy who was probably the elder brother of the mortal training bullets into a bloody Zhi who seemed to have died. There was blood and the smell of burnt stuff and gunpowder and.... Tess felt someone sprinkling water on her. She relaxed; it was just a bad vision, nothing much. She muttered as she felt the river water hit her face, "Zhi... I'm sorry." She tried to sit up but someone put a hand on her shoulder and made her lie down. The sunlight was dancing through the gaps in the tree under which she lay. Her head still hurt but it wasn't as bad. She slowly opened her eyes afraid that it might hurt. She saw a worried face looking at her. It was a young man, who had probably rescued her. The moment he saw she was looking at him he said, "Uh... I'm Carlon. I saw you floating down the river. I guessed you fell off the fall. Your head has a not- so- beautiful swelling. Please hurry and go back to your teammates before it gets dark." He was about to sprint away when he heard her say in a small voice, "Thank you sir, are you by any chance a warrior?" He said, "I'm sorry. I'm a death warrior. Take care of yourself. Your brother is searching for you." With one last look at his large eyes she saw him race into the trees and disappear.

Tess once again flopped down on the ground as she was extremely tired. She wanted her brother to come for her tell her that everything was alright. The sky was getting darker by the minute. Red and Almond were feeling tired. Both with half their energies, though Almond was doing better than Red. He carried Zhi for some time and they finally found someone lying underneath a tree. Wet and soaking due to the closeness of the river. Red swam across the river as she did not want Almond to use his energy unnecessarily. Almond went over the river with Zhi. They had to return before the night fell. Sherry was bribing them to come home for her tasty dinner. It was Tess under the tree. Zhi hugged her again and again. She woke up the warmth was so comforting. She broke into tears as she told what had happened. Red noticed bandages of leaves on her hand and legs. She thought it must have been the death warrior but the detail confused her. It was inky dark by the time the four of them reached their base. All of them tired and hungry reached the portal by sinking into the ground to rise up at the beach. Red felt overwhelmed by the sudden entry and felt her legs waver. Almond held her waist and steadied her on the ground. Takshak and Cleo were there on the beach ready to receive them. Cleo walked with the twins telling them about the food waiting for them. Takshak walked along with Red and Almond. No one spoke. The next day Sherry and Cleo were going to the other world so, the others could rest a bit. Red was so damn tired even walking made her feel dizzy. Almond strode next to her to hold her if she fell. Luckily they all had enough energy to have a warm bath and get down for dinner. The whole dining hall smelt of roasted chicken and tasty bread. Almond's stomach rumbled impatiently as he waited for Red to come out of her room. She came out her hair wet and her shirt soaked the water. Almond asked her gently, "Red, are you well enough to...." Red answered him, "Yup, I'm fine. Just a bit tired. Do me a favor, would you?" Almond looked at her as if he was ready to do anything for her when Red said, "Is it alright if we could sit for sometime after dinner in the main balcony?" Almond nodded happily and for sometime put a hand around her shoulder as they walked the corridor of the east wing. When they reached the hall it was as if nothing passed between them. Sherry was doing all the arrangements with Cleo's help. He was so sweet. Almond helped a bit after seating Red. They all thanked God for their safe return and started munching on the honestly tasty food. Red was feeling shivery and giddy. She had never felt that way before. She was half way through dinner when she started finishing off her plate and said, "Thank you for the... wonderful dinner. I... I need to go. I'm sorry I wasn't much of a help here." They wished her a goodnight as she started moving upstairs, rather dragging herself with the support of the railing. No one noticed her fainting and falling off the stairs as she slipped and collapsed on the steps. Almond walked up after helping clean up the place and stacking the dish washer with dishes. The moment he saw Red on the steps, he broke into a run to pick her up. He did not ask anyone to come for help. Picking her up he walked and decided to leave her in her room. Mid-way she felt herself being in someone's arms and opened her eyes to stare directly into his (oh! - so damn gorgeous) eyes. She didn't feel like getting off him but she did feel like a total idiot for waking up. Almond seemed to understand her and did not put her down. They went straight to the balcony. None of them spoke a word but it was better that way. After an hour and a half both returned to the comfort of their rooms and cozy quilts.

That night Red had a dream where she saw a young man who walked alone on the river banks. He carried a sort of sad face. He went back quite sadly to a fort like place. There some people attacked him. Red was missing some part but she could hear screams from that man and people shouting, "Who asked you to help the enemies?" "You are one hell of a traitor", "Go join them, there's no need to tag around with us any more", "Shoo! You dog!" The next thing Red saw was that man sitting under the same tree where Tess was bandaging his broken bones with the same type of bandage that was on Tess! She woke up sweating, tired and felt her head bursting. Flicking the air conditioner to a higher level she flopped back into bed to try to sleep. She had lost it yet again. Her sleep. She'd started losing her sleep ever since she had transferred her almost half of her soul into that handsome dork living across her room. She felt like she could have a panic attack or something. Oh! How exhausted and yet not sleepy she was!

P.S. I won't be able to post the next few episodes for 2 weeks or so. Promise I'll do that after coming back! Thank you for your read!
