Using the Motorcycle Lift
Practically every motorcycle that i have ever purchased or owned has had a center stand. When i first bought myself the Triumph Thunderbird Sport, it did cross my mind that the lack of a motorcycle lift might pose as a big problem, but alas, my emotions took over practicality and i purchased the bike anyway!
All you need to know about the Motorcycle Lift
A motorcycle lift is useful when it comes to performing certain maintenance activities like washing the motorcycle or even changing fluids. With an increase in the popularity of motorcycle accessories, motorcycle lifts have become an important part in the 'bike' industry, as most bikers are now taking responsibility of their bikes.
As a result of this, there are many new and interesting models of motorcycle lifts emerging in the market everyday. Just as there are different models of bikes available like street bikes, cruisers, sports bikes, choppers, race bikes and even custom bikes, similarly, there are those many motorcycle lift models available. The only difference between each of these lifts would be the weight capacity that it is capable of supporting and the style, which has to be considered very carefully prior to purchasing the equipment, as using the wrong type of lift could possibly scratch or damage your bike.
Essentially, there are two different types of motorcycle lifts available in the market today, namely: the air lift and the hydraulic motorcycle lift.
However, people who have dealt with motorcycle lifts extensively will tell you that the best types of lifts are table lifts that have a secure and strong base with an electric screw to lower or raise the table.
Using the Motorcycle Lift
The basic concept of the motorcycle lift is that it should be able to slide under the motorcycle, lock the two rear wheels and slowly raise the bike up by putting pressure on the foot pedal, which operates the hydraulic jack. It is a known fact that the lift always works best when the motorcycle is placed in such a position that it is vertical with the rear end placed on a swing arm stand.
After making sure that the right side is cleared carefully for exhaust, the motorcycle lift can then be pushed under the engine towards the side stand. However, note that if any leverage is added to the rear or front end of the bike, then lift will most probably tip.
To get your bike to its normal position, you will be required to tighten the jack valve and put pressure on the lift jack until you release the safety bar. Place this bar in a locked position and release the valve slowly so that you can lower the motorcycle to its normal position.
So, when you are thinking about buying yourself a motorcycle lift, you need to first think about the safety, reliability and strength of the equipment beforehand. Yes, cost is indeed an important factor, but this factor alone should not force you into compromising on quality. Your motorbike as well as your safety while you are lying down underneath it is a lot more important!
