Using Desk Lamps In Your Home

A desk lamp can provide a good amount of lighting for you when you are reading or writing at your desk. This article discusses what to look for when deciding to choose a desk lamp for your study.
It is a common fact that amidst a family that busily bustles all around the house, it is extremely difficult to get any of your personal work done.

The only time you can have for yourself and your work is when the others have finally gone to sleep. Then again, if you dazzle the room at such a late hour so that the others think that it is day time already and wake up to find that it is still night outside the window sill, you would be seriously done for.

The better option is not to take the risk, but take a desk lamp. Buy one, and you will have enough light to flood your desk top with, and yet the others will still be soundly asleep.

Desk lamps come in various types and style. Their differences are brushed up through unique style, brand and finish. The lamps meant for student’s work needs to be more compact and small. For business work however, the larger ones of copper or brass are the perfect choice.

There are numerous styles for desk lamps, some of them being traditional, contemporary, craftsman, transitional, casual, crystal, wrought iron, Tiffany, Victorian, Art Deco and others.

You also have special lamps especially for children. And then there are others like the nautical and Asian styles to check out too!

Desk lamps can also have different finish, like bronze, copper, iron, or nickel finish. They also come in the pewter, black or chrome finish. As you can realize, the options that are available to you are many. Take notice of the art and decor that characterizes your room, and accordingly, decide on the desk lamp.

A lampshade of the bright red color could be very exciting in a children’s room, but amidst the Victorian art and sentiments, it would look ridiculous and ghastly.

You also need to keep in mind the purpose of the lamp. If you intend to plunk it on the study table, make sure that its size is proportionate to the size and shape of the table.

For your children’s room, get a lamp that is hardy and durable, or else it would simply break when your kids decide to romp about and insist on creating a mess in their room. For your library, you can choose a lamp that is delicate, ornamental and beautiful.

Before you buy a lamp, check the power rating of the bulb. Moreover, to get lamps that shed light but do not glare, choose the ones whose shades cover the bulb properly. You can also get the swivel headed lamps so that you can swivel the direction of the bulb light to suit your needs.

Lamp shades nowadays also come with adjustable arm lengths, so that you can increase or reduce the height of the lamp whenever necessary.
