Unworthy

Something I started writing for school a while ago. Insane serial killer thinks vampires are real. Turns out He's right and he knows who they are. The killings continue.
Shadows in the Dark

"Shall I continue?" he smirked and spat at the white cushioned floor. "Never mind, I think ill carry on anyway." He paused before shooting a deathly glare at the mirror on the opposing wall. "He screamed, "Get out of my head! Why can’t you just leave me alone!" then I grinned coldly at him. You have sinned, what use are you to the living? You will have a better welcome from the dead. In my dreams death screaming, I’m killing again. Doing God’s work, I should have been praised not punished. Still you leave me here to rot. They deserved it, they all did every last one. "
"So in control I know exactly what I’m doing. Smash him against the wall, ripping at his tired legs with the sharp blood stained pocket knife conveniently in my grasp. He’s crying, pleading for his life, so weak. His battered body lies completely at my mercy. Nothing more than a worthless piece of dirt. Doesn’t deserve life, I have to take it from him. I reach down to him and slash his wrist with my blade, he yelps with the pain and tries to crawl away from me with one arm. He cradles the other like a sniveling coward; i’ll show him how cowards die, on their backs like dogs. Now I’m angry, I feel the rage building in my mind, clouding my vision turning everything blood red. But I don’t let it control me, I’m always in control. I kick him down; push his face into the dirt where it belongs. Now for my favorite part, I take my knife and slice into his neck, the blood begins to gush out of the open wound, fatal. I place my mouth over it and feel the warm blood slither down my throat; it’s almost as if it’s coursing through my veins. I only stop when I feel his body stiffen and his heart stop. Sleep tight."
A smile pursed around his lips as he sat rocking himself, back and forth as silent and malicious as a scorned child. Regret, guilt, pain he feels nothing, safe inside his mind. The straight jacket draped around him like a robe, holding him back. Even that wouldn’t stop him, still smiling he turns back to the mirror "I’m coming to get you."
"This is un-nerving" Doctor Fielding sighed unable to rip his gaze away from the troubled man gently swaying and laughing in front of him. "So you say he’s been recounting his killings more frequently?" Doctor Rokas shuddered ,then nodded solemnly. "Hmm.. All I can do is give him more medication to make him sleep, he shouldn’t be as much trouble to you unconscious."
"Doctor Fielding I’ve spent many hours trying to analyze his dreams... his murders and his fantasies, a monster like that can’t be stopped by giving him more drugs. Nothing will make the fear he spreads sleep." Doctor Rokas murmured, her expression fixed and terrified. "After speaking with him and just looking into those eyes... those eyes of pure hatred," she paused, and cast her eyes to the ground. "I felt as though I was the crazy one."

The killer moved close to the prey. "Think you can hide from me?" they laughed but kept to the shadows. "Who is that...Who’s there?" A muffled voice penetrated the darkness "You know why I’m here. Do you think you should be alive?" a slight pause "Don’t worry, you don’t need to answer. I know you shouldn’t, I’m here to sort that out."
"Who are you!!" he screamed. Slowly something emerged from the darkness and stood staring directly towards Eric with blood lust in its eyes. "You?" he questioned, voice quivering "but why?"
In an instant it was upon him, bearing into his flesh and dragging him into the dirt. All went black then, nothing.

"Evidently the victim knew his attacker. There were no signs of a struggle or self defence. The former guard of Avano’s home for the mentally unstable, Eric Bennet was found dead in the early hours of yesterday morning. He appears to have been dead for several days. Eric 27, lived alone and no one reported him missing. He was found by a paper boy taking a short cut through a back alley; it’s baffling how he was not discovered before now. The young paper boy is still being treated for shock. The only details that we are able to release at this moment are that this is a murder. He appears to have been struck repeatedly with a blunt object. After that... we have found disturbingly strong evidence of vampirism. If anyone has any information please call the number on the screen, thank you."
A crooked smile then the television went blank.

A sombre mood was instilled in the workers of Avano’s that day. Eric had been much loved among his colleagues and no one could understand why anyone would want to kill him. It wasn’t just that, when the details of Eric’s mysterious death were released silence had descended. Eric had met Reeno and this is how Reeno had said he was going to die. How he said he was going to kill him. The moment doctor Rokas heard about the murder she rushed to Reeno’s holding cell. Sitting and smiling knowingly Reeno greeted her with chilling words "I told you i was going to get him." Doctor Rokas stared bewildered at the insane man completely dumbstruck, how could he have known about Eric? "Who’s next?" he smirked.

Later, Doctor Rokas sat opposite Reeno inside his cell. Being carefully observed by the faceless shadows behind the mirrored wall. It became obvious that they weren’t out of Reeno’s mind. "You know how this works Anna, they can’t be here" he breathed softly.
"Reeno, it’s only me and you. Please will you explain how you know what happened to Eric? Did someone tell you.." she got no further
"Don’t lie to me Anna" Reeno hissed through gritted teeth.
"What would I accomplish from lying to you?" she questioned.
"You tell me. You’re the one provoking me." Reeno’s eyes were alive with hatred.
"Look, we could play these games all day. Or you could tell me what you know" she was beginning to sound exasperated.
"Make me." He growled in reply.

"That’s quite enough Anna, let me talk to him you’re not getting anywhere." The deep voice boomed from the speakers high above. Doctor Rokas’s face reddened and for a moment she looked as though she was going to refuse but she relented. "Yes sir." she mouthed in reply, then she stood and left the room.
A bald and scrawny man entered carrying a large black briefcase. He had a certain air of importance about him even though he didn’t look like much. As he fumbled for his watch he shot Reeno a bleak smile. "Good afternoon Reeno Carter" he huffed shoving out a stubby little hand in Reeno’s direction. Reassessing the situation he realized the awkwardness of shaking hands with a straight jacket. He pulled away and sat opposite Reeno, his beady little eyes studying his every move. This man lacked composure appearing ready to vacate his seat at a moment’s notice. For good reason Reeno’s infamous reputation preceded him.

"My name is Alfred Marlow. We know you didn’t kill Eric Bennet Mr Carter. Although we are inclined to believe that you know of the one responsible. Tell us what you know and no harm will come to you." Alfred held no emotion in his tone, he took a very businesslike approach to the situation. Reeno fixed his eyes on the small plump man unsettling him even more. "You should take care Mr. Marlow for the creature of the night you seek... is far closer than you realize." Reeno laughed. Alfred’s emotionless shroud disappeared, his eyes narrowed and he hunched forward towards Reeno. "What do you know about vampires?" He hissed, fear streaked across his face.

The Unworthy series continues with "Another Night of Solitude."
