Untrustworthy - Chapter 16/Supermarket Chase
"I need an adult! No means no mister!"
Elysa burst out of the house and had just cleared the lawn when she realized something was wrong. She looked over her shoulder, still running, to see that Sara was not behind her and she was running alone. Horror gripped her, was her friend still in that house with Arden? At that moment she saw Royal come out of the house, look around, and spot her.
Her terror spiked again and she sprinted away from the house, her blood hammering in her ears. Royal was a basketball player and with his long legs he was quickly overtaking her. Even with her head start she barely made it out of her neighborhood. He was only a few feet behind her when she ran across the parking lot and burst through the doors of the supermarket in front of Sara’s house.
The only line that came to her was Family Guy's. "I need an adult!" She screamed as she ran through the store. The few shoppers stared as she disappeared down the aisle for soup cans, desperately seeking any avenue of escape, with Royal hard on her heels.
Within five seconds a security guard and store clerk were there. They took Royal by the arms and flung him back. They wrestled him to the ground when he tried to run away and were joined by another security guard and the store manager who asked Elysa what was wrong. Sobbing for breath she told them.
"I...just....escaped....from...a...crack....house...and....my....best....friend....Sara....is....still....there....with....the....drug.....dealers!" So maybe it wasn’t exactly a crack house. Close enough.
"Where is this?"
"1732 East Clintwood Dr." She rattled off. "Down this street to the right." She pointed, eying Royal warily.
He snarled at her, "You’re gonna get it, bitch."
"Shut up." The security guard barked. The other one was on the phone with police.
They raided the house again, and this time found everything they were looking for. All the tenants were taken away for illegal substances and Jacob was sent to the overfull Juvenile detention center he’d been helping to stock. There were a lot of people with grudges against him there. Mayor was arrested at a bar, surrounded by girls, actually in possession of drugs at the time. Gage was found in the basement, awaking from his concussion and sent to the hospital. He and Royal stood trial as adults. Arden and Sara were not there.
