~The New House~
{Chapter Four}
Justin had to go to his mom's house as we separated. I was pretty sad because I don't know when I'm going to be able to see him again. I walked out with my sister who was rambling about how she already loves LA and how 'Juicy' the boys kisses were.
'Do you even know their names?' I asked.
'Um I think the blond one is Spencer? Or is it Gary, or Jeff, Sammy? Nigel............?'
I just laughed. My little angel sister was on a plane, made out with about two guys, and she doesn't even know their names! I shook my head. A worker from the plain handed us our luggage, and told us that the movers are already at our house waiting for us.
'Speaking of which, where is our house?' I asked my mom.
'Well honey, you'll just have to wait and find out.' said mom. Great just what I need, more surprises.
When we were driving up I saw the weirdest things....the only word that could describe it is...ghetto. There were a lot of graffiti, trash, and beat up houses. I sure hope we aren't going to live in this neighborhood. Suddenly we stopped at a white little house with a white picket fence. We all got out and just stood there.
I stood there frozen with my mouth open. I looked at everyone. My mom held a satisfied expression, my dad held a board, yet frustrated expression, and my sister was in shock like me. But it looked like she was going to flip.
Millie started laughing hysterically.
'Okay mom let's go to the house now... yes the house is cute but the movers are waiting for us remember?' said Millie
My mom chuckled
'Honey, this is the house. I didn't stop to admire this time. This is it.' Said mom. I looked at Millie. She looked like her head was going to pop off.
'WHAT????' Millie shrieked. I heard birds all fleeing from the tree above us. Millie collapsed to the ground in her misery; she kept mumbling 'This can't be happening! This can't be happening, it just can't.' If I didn't know her like a sister then I'd say she's insane. My parents were trying to reassure her that everything will be fine as I walked around the place. It wasn't that big there was a cute picket fence and some flowers and a small backyard. I looked around. All the houses looked like this one. But theirs were a little damaged here and there and had a little graffiti. Other than that, the neighbor hood looks just fine as well as ours. I have to admit. I am feeling like Millie on the inside. But Millie has always been a drama queen, so that's expected from her. Me, well I'm more of a keep it bottled up inside explode kind of girl.
But that's beside the point. Wait a minute. If the houses look like this, then what does the school I'm now going to go to look like? I became panicky, so I do what I always do when I'm panicky; I climb up into my childhood tree house. But of course, since we moved it's not here. Great. I looked around the perimeter. No huge trees. I did find a barrel with cobwebs in it. Hmmmmm.....I walked back to my parents. They finally got Millie to stop hyperventilating and calm down.
'So, mom, since we had so much fun looking outside the house, why don't we take a look inside?' I looked around. Ah there are the movers.
'Uh, yes that sounds like a great idea.'
'Tell me when its over' moaned Millie as she climbed back into our van.
'Okay honey, have a good nap!' said mom cheerfully. I think she was just glad she didn't have to deal with Millie's over exaggerations for the moment. 'Follow me guys!' she said to the movers. They opened the truck and pulled out our living room sofa. My mom turned to me.
'Why don't you just run in there and get first picks for your room before Millie comes back and realizes what a mistake she's making, kay?'
'Sure.' I said and walked faster to the house. To my surprise the house was just as cute on the inside. I looked to my left, there was the kitchen, and to right there was the living room. in front of me was the stairs. Oddly there were only like...ten stairs. Hmmm. I decided to look in the living room first. This house is different from my old house because, our house had a HUGE backyard, in good condition, and had three stories - one basement (Millie's giant room) the second story had our garage, kitchen, laundry room, living room and family room, our third story had my room, mom and dad's room, and the office (where all of out computers were and mostly where dad worked)- so it was a little shocking for Millie. The living room was a decent size. It wasn't big, but it wasn't exactly small. The walls were painted an olive green (my mom would hate that she'd probably want to paint over it a more creamy color), and there was wooden floor, there was a sliding glass door for the backyard. It was cute, to me. I wandered into the Kitchen. This time there were yellow walls, and white cabinets (my mom would love that). It was a small kitchen, but big enough to put a dinner table to eat. I wandered upstairs. There were four doors. I didn't know what door to enter first so I did what I always do when I can't make up my mind. I did eeny meeny miney mo.
'If he hollers let 'em go, eeny meeny miney mo." I recited. When I finished I was
pointing at the door in the middle left. I walked towards the door and opened it. Bathroom. Great. It was actually a cute bathroom. It was small, but not too small. It was painted a sandy color, and had a marble counter. It had a white toilet and a cute shower/ bathtub. I sighed and walked out the bathroom. I tried eeny meeny miney mo again and my index finger pointed at the farthest door to the right. I slowly walked toward the door hoping it wasn't another bathroom. I slowly - and when I say slowly I mean like sloth slow- and opened the door all the way only to find the most beautiful room a girl could ever dream of. It had plain white walls, it was big but not too big, it had a walk-in closet, and I could tell that when I paint this baby my favorite color-teal- and when I put the furniture in it, it would be any girls dream room. I dug through my purse for a sticky note and a pen. I quickly scratched my claim on the note:
I, Lucy am claiming this room as mine. If you have a problem with this - I'm talking about you Millie - well then too bad. You snooze, you lose. This room is officially mine.
Sincerely, Lucy
After I stuck the note on the front of the door I decided to check on my parents to see how they were doing with Millie. When I walked out of the house my parents were giving Millie a pep talk.
'Alright sweetie? Everything will be fine.' Said mom
'Ugh, fine. I'm going to go check out the house.' Said Millie
'Okay your father and I will go and talk to the movers and get everything settled.' Said mom
'Kay' Millie and I said at the same time, though I'm not sure if it was directed at me as well.
"Hey, Millie." I said
"What?" asked Millie
"You know, it probably won't be so bad. I'm sure there will be kids just as nice as they were at home. And well, I hear there are great stores for you to shop in as well." I said with a wink.
"Yea, well, we'll see." Millie looked at the white house disappointedly and entered the house. On the other hand, I decided to walk around the front yard. I decided to embrace the move rather than sulk, like my sister. I wondered what this city had in stored for me and my sister.
