Unrequited Hate - Chapter Sixteen - FINAL

From the author of "Duality of Alexa", here is a story where hatred and love collide.
Chapter Sixteen.

When Evan followed after Adrienne, they wound up in her bedroom.

Shutting the door behind him, Evan turned to find Adrienne packing.

"Um... What are you doing?"
"What do you mean?" Adrienne asked as she put away the cosmetics she wouldn't need.
"Why are you packing? More importantly... Why are you packing after what you said at the table?"
"Whether you were here or not, I'd still be packing," she replied.
"Oh."
"Yeah..." She walked to the closet and grabbed her bag and packed all but one outfit.
"Are we not going to talk about what you just said out there?" Evan asked.

Adrienne shrugged in response.

Sadness was sweeping over her. Or maybe it was disappointment. He didn't say what he said he would if she revealed it was him she wanted a future with.

Shaking the stupid thoughts out her mind, she shoved her makeup bag in her overnight bag and sat down at the edge of her bed.

Done.

Meanwhile, he stood by her door with his arms crossed and watched her awkwardly sit.

"You're disappointed, aren't you?"

She frowned and her eyebrows furrowed.

"You catch me off my guard and you expect me to recite what I told you earlier?"

Was he a mind reader?

"You can't be serious if you think I didn't mean what I said to you today," he continued.

"Come here," she instructed and patted the spot beside her.

When we walked over, she pulled down his crossed arms and yanked him down to sit.

They sat staring at each other's faces, each waiting for the other to say something. When a few minutes of silence passed, Evan abruptly lay on his back with a heavy sigh.

Adrienne turned a bit to look down at him. He reached out to yank on her hand. It was his silent invitation to come closer.

Propping her head up with one arm, she looked down on him. From this angle, he was more handsome.

Looking up at Adrienne, he felt this was it.
"Are you willing to marry me?" He asked simply.
"Is there a reason why I wouldn't be willing?"
"Well you do hate me for a few things... Don't you?"
She gave him a peck on the nose.
"No matter how much I tried, it never worked out. I never hated you," she revealed.

He propped his head up on one hand like her.

"Will you marry me?"
She raised an eyebrow at him and smiled.

"Shouldn't you be down on one knee or something?"
"For you, I'd do anything if it means you'd say 'yes'!"
"Really now...?" She asked, thoughtfully tapping a finger on her chin.

"Awww... Don't think too hard now. Come over here."

He dragged her closer and they shared the evening wrapped up in each other's arms.

So this is what I'd been waiting for so long, he told himself.

This is what I'd been denying myself, she thought to herself.

Finally, they realized the relationship they had given in to giving up so easily on. Having taken this long, only helped them discover the two of them were meant to be where they were.

Together.
