Unknown Lady

Some encounters leave us blank and and also leave behind so many questions.. Questions to which you can never really find answers ever.A short story of one such an encounter
Unknown Lady
I had just reached Matheran with my friend Rajiv, who wanted to buy this heritage mansion to turn in into a hotel. The lady who owned the property died last year succumbing to a prolonged illness and the property was put on sale
A huge mansion(palace would have been the right word) with beautiful manicured lawn,it was a good buy for Rajiv. I wanted to explore the place alone. I kept moving around checking the rooms on different floors, each were unique. Suddenly something compelled me to draw. And I couldn't stop my eagerness I usually carry my canvas and my paints along when I go for such journeys, in case I get some ideas. I grabbed my canvas from the car. I don’t know what was happening, but I kept sketching and applying paints.

"Wow,who is she?"came Rajiv’s voice.
He was standing right next to me; it felt as if I suddenly woke up from a deep sleep.
"I don’t know" I said looking at the painting. The painting I had just made.
It was a portrait of a lady, and it looked so real as if she was there in front of me and I was painting her.
"Anyways,It’s been two hours and we should leave now", said Rajiv.
We left and I was quiet and kept thinking all the way back about the entire incident.
Next day at noon, my cell rang
"Hello,"
"Hello,I would like to buy some of your painting, can I drop in today in an hour" came in a female voice

"Yes you can, I can show some of my work" I said. And we hanged up. She seemed a new client.
In an hour’s time, a lady appeared on my door. Dressed in a black robe, net veil covering her face.
I let her in to my Studio. She moved from one painting to another.
She stopped by the portrait of the unknown lady I made yesterday.
"I would like to buy it, can you frame it and deliver it to my place tomorrow" she said scribbling the address on paper."I shall pay you tomorrow when I get the painting" she said

I agreed and she left.
Next day, I reached the given address. The door was opened by an old man. He let me in to a room, which already had few more portraits of the unknown lady. I asked the man" do you know who is she?"
"She owns this house"
I asked him if I could meet her.
"She died last year" said the man.
"But I was asked to deliver the art here, and got a call from 23412332"I said rechecking the number from my cell.
"This is our phone number, but its dead since a year now"
I couldn’t stand there any longer and rushed to my car. Something was wrong. As I pulled my car out of the driveway, the image on my side mirror caught my eyes.
The lady in Black robe who had visited me yesterday, stood there at the gate. A soft wind blew her veil away. She was the Unknown lady from the portrait.
