Unknown Bloodline - Chapters 1 to 3

Jadzia thought she was normal, at least for a while. Now, though, she's not so sure.
Chapter 1

7:00 A.M. I sighed as I heard the alarm go off. It was time for school, again. I didn't like school even though I was 18 and almost done with the year and with high school in general. Going to school was something I couldn't get out of, though. Not unless I was sick, like I had been for a good amount of time the end of last year and beginning of this year. I hadn't really been sure what had been going on, why I felt so lousy. All I knew was that I felt dizzy, and actually being in the sun made me feel worse.

When it had first happened I was in school, and my home room teacher (I hadn't even made it past the beginning of school) had said that I didn't look so good and told me to go to the nurse. When I stood up, I felt bad and had to be helped to the nurse. When I got there, it wasn't too long after that I was sent home. After that, whenever I even got a little dizzy I was kept home from school.

Today, I felt just fine. I kind of wished I didn't, though, not wanting to take my Math and History tests today. I knew I'd have to, though, unless something drastic happened. So, I went and got out of bed then walked over to my closet. I looked through my clothes and decided on a pair of red colored jeans and a purple top. Once I was changed, and my favorite pink sneakers were on my feet, I went and combed through my shoulder length auburn hair and quickly braided I then went and grabbed my backpack and my sunglasses, so I'd at least have something to protect my lavender colored eyes. I was also hoping it'd help to not make me feel bad if there was too much sun, although it didn't take too much sun to do that.

Now that I was ready, well as ready as I was going to be, I went and left my room and headed downstairs for breakfast. My parents were there, eating breakfast and having some kind of conversation. I didn't really know what it was about, and I didn't ask. There wasn't a whole lot of time, so I just went and got a bowl of cereal. As I was, and as I was eating I was asked the normal questions, "How did you sleep?", "Did you get all of your homework done?" and "Are you ready for your tests today?" I answered with a "Fine" and two "Yes" answers.

After I'd eaten I was about to leave for school, when my mom stopped me. I sighed then said, "What's up, Mom? I gotta get to school." Not that I was thrilled about going to school, but getting in trouble for being late or missing taking her tests wasn't her idea of fun.

"I know," she said. "Don't worry. You won't be late. There is something you need to do before you leave, though."

I scrunched my nose, as I heard what she said, then said, "Yuck! I hate that stuff. I don't know why I have to keep taking it."

As I had been saying that my dad had gone into the fridge and taken out the container that had the pink, almost red, liquid that I'd had to drink every morning and night from, well, since I can remember. I didn't know what it was, but I knew I didn't like drinking it.

My dad sighed then said, the same thing he said pretty much every time I got like this, "It's for your own good, Jadzia."

"Why?" I said. "What's so bad about me not drinking whatever the heck that is?"

I wasn't going to just drink it, not when I didn't have to. I saw no reason to. I stood and waited for some kind of answer to my questions. Eventually my mom said, "Jadzia, honey, you're not normal."

Before she could say anything else, I said, "I know that! What's normal about not feeling like you can be in the sun sometimes! I'm still not drinking that!"

With that, I decided to go out the back door and not the front door, moving as quick as I could as I did. I really didn't want to argue with my parents anymore and really hadn't wanted to give them a chance to actually get me to drink that stuff. Right then, school was actually looking better and better despite the tests that were coming up today.

Once I was outside, I hopped on my bike and rode as fast as I could to the school. Thankfully it wasn't that far away. Once I rode the block and a half to school, and parked my bike, I ran into the school. I got to homeroom one minute before the late bell rang. I then sat and waited for the day to start, thinking about what had happened before. Before, when I was younger, I'd just drunk that stuff, that my parents had tried to get me to drink this morning, and hadn't asked questions. Well, mostly not. Now, though, it was different. I need to know why. I also wanted to know why I was different.

Chapter 2

Not normal. That's something Jadzia's heard before. Now, though, it's coming from someone who remembers her from when she was a child, but who Jadzia barely remembers.
---------------------------------------
The day went by fairly well. I had the usual classes everyone else has in high school and had my tests in Math and History. At lunch time, though, I didn't feel really all that hungry. I felt like there was something else I wanted, but wasn't sure what. The other students around me seemed to be affecting me in some way. I tried to eat, even though I felt like that, but it didn't work too well.

At the end of the day, instead of going right home, I decided to go and ride my bike around. I was hoping that I'd be able to shake the feeling I'd had at lunch. I also was hoping to get away from people for a while and hoping to maybe not feel so weird. I wasn't really sure where I'd end up, but I was sure I'd be out riding around for a while.

After riding for a while, I ended up in a semi-wooded area and kept going until I came to a lake. Once there, I stopped the bike and got off. I then went and sat down beside the lake, looking out at the calm water. I was glad that where I was didn't have really much sunlight and was more shaded than anything. I sat for a while, just thinking about everything that had happened. At one point, I put my head in my hands and said, with a sigh, "Why am I different? Why do I feel so weird?"

Not too long after I said that, I heard some noise behind me. I went and got up, and turned around. I wasn't sure who it was and was really hoping it wasn't someone who wanted to cause trouble. I went and started walking away from my bike, as I said, "Hello? Who's there?" I kept walking for a little while, before I heard another noise that sounded a lot like a twig snapping. I turned and looked in the direction

I heard the noise coming from, but didn't see anyone there. I sighed then turned to start walking back to where my bike and the lake were, deciding to let the noises go. When I turned, though, I noticed someone not too far from me. I had no idea who it was, or where they came from. I was also curious why they were there. I hesitated before I went and started walking over to the woman who had just appeared out of nowhere. "Who are you?" I asked her. "Where did you come from?"

She was silent for a little while, then said, "I'm sad to hear you don't remember me. I guess it would make sense, since you haven't been home in a long time. I just wish I could've seen you grow up." I wasn't really sure what to think of what this woman said. Ok, so, she was there when I was a kid. That didn't really tell me who she was, though. I remembered my childhood, but only until when I was 7 years old. Before that, though, things were dim. This woman, whoever she was, seemed vaguely familiar, but I couldn't remember her name or how exactly I knew her.

"Ok, so you know me," I said. "But what's your name?"

The woman sighed then said, "My name is Calais. I'm a friend of the family. Your parents would ask me to sit with you when they wanted or needed to go somewhere."

I was silent for a little while, thinking about what she said. The name Calais definitely sounded familiar to me. Also, when I heard her name, I briefly remembered a time when I was little and she babysat me. I was in a different place, though, not in my home. I wasn't sure why, though. I wondered if Calais was a friend of the family, then why hadn't I seen her around more?

I took a breath then said, "Um, ok, your name sounds familiar to me. My question is, though, why do I remember you babysitting me somewhere else besides my home? Oh and, there's still the question of where did you come from? You just sort of showed up."

Calais smiled a little then said, "I'm glad that my name sounds familiar to you. I'm not sure exactly how to answer your questions, though." She paused then said, "Jadzia, I'm not sure how you'll react to this, but the people you think are your parents really aren't. You were taken from your home, in an entirely different place and time, when you were 7 years old."

I stopped her when I heard what she said, not really knowing if I wanted her to continue on with what she was saying. "What do you mean I'm from an entirely different place and time? What do you mean my parents aren't really my parents?" I ask, upset and confused.

Calais lost the small smile she'd had on her face before, as she said, "I know this is confusing and surprising, but..."

I started to walk away from her, not wanting to hear this. "Look, I really don't want to hear this," I said. "I've already had enough weird stuff going on, I don't need to hear this."

I heard footsteps following me, and I figured it was Calais. My suspicion was confirmed, when I heard her say, "How old are you now?"

I stopped walking and looked over at her, not sure why she asked that. It was a question that came out of nowhere. "Why do you want to know that?" I asked.

Calais sighed then said, "It's important. I need to know."

"I'm 18," I said hesitantly, not sure where this was going.

"Have you noticed anything...different? Have you felt weird, been feeling things you can't explain?"

I took a breath then said, "Yes. I have actually." I sighed then said, "Why is that important anyway?"

Calais ran a hand through her hair then said, "You're not normal, Jadzia."

"Yeah, I know. I've heard it before," I said, as I started to walk again. Eventually I got to my bike, and got on it.

Just before I was about to ride away, I heard Calais say, "You need to come with me, Jadzia. You can't stay here anymore."

I didn't say anything to what she said. I just went and started riding my bike, heading for home. The sun had gone down somewhat, and I could tell it was getting dark. I was happy about that, because of what the sun made me feel like. I wasn't sure what my parents would say to me when I got home, but I'd find out soon enough. I knew one thing, there'd probably be a bit of a confrontation when I got home.

Chapter 3

Jadzia finds out what she may or may not wanted to hear.
---------------------------------------
I rode for a while, before I got home and parked my bike in my yard. I then ran inside, using the front door this time. I then went into my room, put my backpack away and ran downstairs. I went into the living room and noticed my parents there, not looking too happy.

"Where were you?" My dad asked. "You know you're supposed to come right home after school."

"Well, excuse me if I didn't want to," I said. "I needed to go somewhere and think, especially after you trying to make me take that stuff this morning!"

"That's no excuse," my mom said. "And don't raise your voice to your father!"

I took a breath then said, "How do I even know you're my parents?!"

They both looked at me with shocked expressions on their faces, before my mom said, "Jadzia, honey, why would you even ask that?"
I was silent a while, as I thought of what to say, then I said, "I ran into someone today, when I was near the lake. She said her name's Calais and she's a friend of the family. She also said that you're not my parents. Is this true?"

My parents were silent for a while, and looked like they weren't really sure how to answer that. Eventually my dad stood up and walked over to me, then said, "Jadzia, I really don't think that's something you should be asking."

"Why?" I asked. "Why can't you just answer my question?! Are you my real parents or not?!"

There was no answer from either my mom or my dad after I said that, so I said, "You know what, fine! I'm not going to stay down here with people who won't answer my questions! I'm going to my room!"

I ran back up to my room, and then locked the door and flopped onto my bed. I then went and started crying, and it was that for a while. I eventually heard a knock on my door. "Go away," I said, to whoever it was at the door.

"Jadzia, can we talk?" I heard my mom say.

"That's what I tried to do before, but you wouldn't," I said.

My mom sighed then said, "I didn't know how you'd react."

I went and got off the bed, and quickly walked over to the door. I unlocked it then said, after the door was open, "How I'd react to what?"

She sighed then said, "To the answer to your question."

She paused then said, "You're right. We're not your real parents."

I swallowed then moved back and said, "Tell me everything. I need to know. Where are my real parents? Why was I brought here?"

I walked over to the bed, and my mom came into the room then closed the door behind her. After I sat down, my mom was silent for a little while, before she said, "It's a bit of a long story. I feel like I should tell you, though."

She paused then said, "You were 7 when we found you. We were sent on a mission to destroy vampires in the place and time you lived in. You see, my husband and I are vampire hunters. We also have a device that allows us to travel through time. That way we can go wherever we need to. When we had first arrived in your former time, you were outside playing. You could go in the sun then without much of a problem."

My mom looked away then said, "You had been one of those we were sent to get rid of. You see, there's something different about your bloodline. Exactly what it is, though, you'll have to find out for yourself. When I saw you, I just couldn't destroy you. You seemed normal enough to me and I wanted to raise you as my daughter. My husband wasn't really sure about it at first, but after some convincing we both went and brought you here, to your new home."

I was silent for a while, processing everything that had been said. It all seemed to make sense. I knew I wasn't normal, but I hadn't been sure why. Yes, I didn't completely know why, but at least I had some kind of answers. Eventually I said, "What you told me kind of makes sense. I mean, I knew I wasn't normal especially with what I've been feeling lately. I have a question for you, though. What's that stuff you've been having me drink?"

My mom was silent for a little while, before she said, "It's something that's supposed to stop any changes from happening, to keep you normal. Well, it was supposed to. It seems that it's not working anymore, or it's not working as well as it used to."

I sighed then said, "Yeah, it's not working anymore. I feel like I need to get more answers, though."

My mom didn't say anything to that. It was like she didn't know what to say. We just sat and stood in silence before I said, "Look, um, I'm kind of tired. I'm gonna take a nap."

"What about dinner?" she asked.

"I'm not hungry," I said. "Just like I wasn't really hungry at lunch."

My mom nodded her head, and just left the room. After she did, I went and slept for a while. After taking a pretty long nap, I woke up and started to do my homework. I couldn't really concentrate much, though. I still felt like I needed answers, so I went and packed some clothes in a bag, as well as any money I had, and a comb, and anything else I thought I might need, then went and opened my door. I then went and started walking down the stairs. I got down the stairs and to the front door without being noticed. When I opened the door, though, I saw that Calais was there. There was someone else there too. I felt like I knew him too, but before I could say anything the vampire hunters were at the door.

I wanted to ask questions, but all I got out was, "I believe you," before the two behind me went and started telling Calais and the man that they needed to leave and a bit of a fight started. When it did, I went and started running out the back door. I got out the back door, but there was someone else there. He didn't look too friendly and looked like he wanted to hurt me. So, I started running as fast as I could, forgetting about the bike. When I got a good distance away, I looked back and realized that someone else had showed up and was fighting him. I also heard someone talking to me and I turned to see who it was.

"Are you a friend of my family too?" I asked.

"Well, not exactly but I can get you out of here. I can also let your parents know you're here so they can come and get you," she said.

I looked back then said, "Yes. Get me out of here."

With that, she went and picked me up and I felt myself moving very quickly through the streets and stuff. Eventually she stopped moving and put me down. She then said, "I'm sure you have questions you want answers too. Your parents can answer them. You need to go back home, though, and soon. You'll know why soon enough, though."
After she said that she went and pulled something looked like a cell phone, but was a bit more futuristic, out of her pocket. After having a brief conversation, she went and said to me, "They'll be here soon. Don't worry."

I didn't say much after that, just stood and waited as well as looked around a little. I didn't know what to say right then. I knew I didn't feel like I could just not look around me, just in case someone I didn't know, or someone who wanted to hurt me decided to show up. I'd really rather not have that.

After waiting for a few minutes, but it seemed longer than that, I felt a bit of wind starting. The wind picked up somewhat and then I heard a weird noise. I'd covered my eyes, to shield them from the wind and when I felt the wind stop, as well as the weird noise, I noticed two people standing right in front of me. I looked at them with a questioning look, then looked over at the woman who'd brought me there, to where we were now.

"I told you they'd be here soon," she said to me, with a smile.
