Unique Design Plan
You can have a unique and serene environment in your garden, if you dedicate few hours to it. A good design plan is essential for a beautiful garden. One can try landscaping, as it not only adds to the beauty of the garden, but also gives a cooling effect to the outdoor space. Vertical planting can bring more greenery into the garden. For kids, parents can make a fairy garden; keeping in mind, the fairy theme which makes use of fairy wind chimes, fairy bird feeder, fairy statues, fairy fountains, fairy cottages and houses. Another type that is in vogue today, is water garden. Depending upon the space available you can have a small pool of water for aquatic plants like water lily, watercress, lotus and animals such as fish.
Garden Decor Ideas
There are many contemporary ways in which you can decorate your garden.
- Wind Chimes: Putting a wind chime in your garden can give a soothing and peaceful feeling. It also helps in keeping birds off the fruit or vegetable bushes. Hence, it should be positioned well.
- Tree Furniture: Trees in your garden can be used as a support for a hammock or modified into a park-type bench with comfortable cushions. This will not only look nice, but also give a comfortable feel and tempt you to spend more time in your garden.
- Color Garden Walls: Coloring the garden walls with motifs of flowers, fruits and vegetables adds to the decor of the garden. To give a more artistic flavor, you can make a small tree house or even have a giant chess set.
- Solar Lights and Fountains: At night, you can opt for candles, lanterns or solar lights. A garden can also have solar fountains which are eco-friendly and do not require any external wiring.
- Pots and Containers: Growing plants in a container or pot gives you an advantage of changing their positions and giving a fresh look to the garden whenever required.
- Artificial Flowers: Fake silk flowers can also be used, as we don't have flowers blooming throughout the year. These flowers also enhance the look of the garden.
- Night Flowers: There are some flowers that blossom in the moonlight like moonflower or moonvine, evening primrose and the night-blooming cereus. Epiphyllum oxypetalum is a night-blooming cereus, it blooms in waves of fifteen flowers at a time. Moonvine flowers are white in color and open up with a clover-like fragrance. Evening primrose are bright, yellow flowers that bloom at night and close during the day. They are strongly scented with a perfume-like aroma. Watching these flowers bloom during the night is a delight.
- Garden Fountains: Waterfalls and garden fountains give a soothing and exotic ambiance, but that requires enough space. They are enjoyed by people of all age groups and provide relief in hot summer afternoons.
- Fencing: While decorating the garden, safety and privacy measures should not be ignored. To protect the garden decor, it is necessary to have a good fencing around it. One can opt for bamboo fencing, vinyl fencing, wooden garden fencing etc., depending upon the requirements and cost.
- Border Edging: You can also try border edging, as it gives a decorative and elegant look to the garden. Wire garden fence or redwood blocks can be used to craft a curved border for the garden.
