Unforgotten Love - Chapter 3

Comment.
I remembered the day that me and Shawn spent at the park, how he let me wear his jacket. I grabbed the jacket off my bed. It smelled just like him. I was glad I spent the day with Shawn, but the school called my mom and I'm grounded. Great... just great, but I wasn't sorry.

"Rachel! Time for dinner!" mom yelled from the kitchen. When I got to my seat at the small, circular table in the corner of the kitchen, Matt was almost done with his food, and my mom was sitting in the living room watching the news.

"Hey" Matt said in between bites.

"Hey." Looking at my plate I realized I wasn't hungry, so I sat down and looked at the new magazine I got in the mail.

"I heard you and Shawn were dating." How the heck did he know this?

"Ummm.... Where did you hear this?" I asked calmly.

"It's all over school, lil' sis." He smiled. I got up from the table and went up to my messy room, and dug in my drawer. Finally I found it, my cell phone. I picked it up grateful that my mom didn't take it away and texted Nick.

"Hey can we hang out?" I wrote.

A couple of minutes later I got a text back. "Sure"

I put on my shoes and walked out into the backyard and climbed into the old, wood tree house. I remembered playing out here in the summer, only coming out if our moms called us for dinner.

Nick came about ten minutes later. "Hey." He said and sat on the floor across for me.

"Hey. I missed you." He was staring at the floor. "Where were you?" I picked up a twig from the floor and waited for him to answer.

"Where was I? Seriously? I was trying to talk to you all weekend and I waited by your locker yesterday trying to talk to you. The question is WHERE WERE YOU?"

I was speechless. I didn't want him to know I was with Shawn. "Umm, I was sick."
He stared at me for a minute and said, "Don't give me that sh-" I stopped him in the middle of his sentence.

"You really want to know where I was! I was with my boyfriend. Happy?" Nick look hurt. I wish I never said it.

Nick didn't say anything. I got up and stepped down the later. Before my foot hit the ground
Nick yelled, "Just be careful." What did he mean by that?
~~~
"You wanna hang out after school?" Shawn smiled and grabbed my hand. People in the lunch room stared at us. I thought about it. I was supposed to be home after school but... I'd rather spend time with him.
"Yeah, that would be fun." Shawn gave me a kiss and went to the crowded table with his friends.
I got up from the white table I was sitting at and went to my locker. I saw girls in my class walking to lunch with their best friends. I realized I didn't have really any friends.
~~~
"Ray, you ok?" Matt asked. He saw me walking out of school.

"Umm... yeah" Matt's arm was around his girlfriend's, Michelle, waist. "Then where are you going?" he asked.

"Nowhere"

Like a good brother, Matt asked, "Do you want me to drive you somewhere?"

I thought about his question, but I didn't know where I wanted to go. "No, I was just going to get some air." I left them standing in the hallway. Behind the school there were large trees surrounding a single white, marble bench.

I sat down on the bench and day dreamed. "Oh, sorry!" A small voice exclaimed. The girl standing there had on a gray t-shirt with Mickey Mouse on it. When I saw her in the hallway she was never in a group of friends, actually I never saw her hanging out with other people.

"Its fine, you can sit down." I slid down and she sat down. "I'm Rachel." She smiled and said back, "I'm Savannah." She pushed her blonde hair away from her eyes.

Savannah and I talked for a while. Soon we ended up talking about Nick. She told me that she had a "thing" for him. "So." Savannah dragged out the word. "Can you ask him if he likes me?"

Well, I didn't know if I should tell her that he kissed me. "I'll ask him" I said quickly. I heard the bell ring and we left to go to class. "See you later" I said before we got to the door.

I walked down the crowded halls to my locker. On the way there I saw Nick. He just ignored me. "Nick?" He looked my way fast, but then went back to talking to his friends. "Nicholas!" I knew he hated when anybody called him that. Nick looked at me and walked over.
Nick was standing a couple of feet away. "What do you want?" His voice was like steel.

"Nick, I miss you." I was going to add more, but I had too much on my mind right now. Nick smiled for a second and went back to the straight face he was wearing when he first came.

"I'm sure you do." He lowered voice and stepped closer to me. "You know what. I miss you too" Nick put his hand on the back of my head and started to lean in. I thought he was mad at me?

Nick's lips touched mine. My eyes closed. The voice in my head told me No! Stop! You have a boyfriend!

"No." I whispered. Nick's hands cupped my face. "It's ok. We were always supposed to be together. Its fine." He whispered back.

A voice behind us spoke. "No, it's not fine." Shawn's fists were balled up.

"Shawn." Was all I could say.
