Chapter 8

Finally, the three minutes were over. I came out of the bathroom and stared at Lilly. "It's positive." I stuttered. "Go do the others, see what they say." she insisted. I did as I was told, and didn't come out until I was done with all of them. "There were more positives than negatives. I guess I'm pregnant." I shrugged my shoulders and sat on the couch. "What are you gonna do? Keep it, give it up, abortion...? There's lots of options here, Nicole." Lilly babbled. "I'll keep it, I want this kid." I told her as I turned the TV on.

A knock came at the door and I opened the blinds to my sliding door, to see Gage standing there. "Are you... pregnant?" he asked when I opened the door. "Yeah, unless most of them were false positives." I sighed. "We need to talk." He pulled me outside and shut the door. We walked over to the rock and sat down. "What is there to talk about?" I asked. "Your baby. I just want you to know, I'll be here for you. Even if you do push me away.

I love you Nicole and that will never change." he told me honestly. Gage took my hand and rubbed his thumb across it. "I love you too. Can I ask you something?" I questioned, peering at him from behind my eyelashes. "Sure, of course." I took a deep breath, and sat up straight. "Would you be the baby's dad?" Gage's eyes brightened and he smiled. "Yeah." he sighed. I pushed my lips onto his and wrapped my arms around his neck. Now, it didn't matter that he had broken me once. I was in his arms again, nothing else mattered. He placed his hands in my waist and pulled me closer. I pulled away and stared into his eyes. "I'm going to the doctor tomorrow, wanna come?" I asked him sweetly. "Of course." he answered, kissing me lightly on the cheek. We went back into the cabin, where Lilly had her ear against the door. "Lilly!" I laughed. She put her hands up and backed away. "So, 'yall are back together?" Lilly asked, plopping onto the couch. "I guess we are." Gage said, looking over at me.

"Ready?" Gage asked as he came into my room. "Yeah, I'm just nervous. They are checking to see how the baby is coming along." I sighed, grabbing my bag and heading out the door. I followed Gage to his car and climbed in. The engine started and we were off. The trees and houses flew by as I bit my nails nervously. "It's ok, Nicole. The baby will be fine." Gage soothed, playing with my hair from the driver seat. I heard crying from somewhere, so I instantly looked down at my belly. Gage chuckled and pointed at the backseat. I turned around to see Lea crying as she pointed to the floorboard. I looked down to see her bottle; I picked it up and gave it to her.

She stopped crying and smiled big at me. "You're gonna be a great mom, Nicole." Gage predicted, looking back at me. "Thanks, but focus on your driving. I don't want us to wreck." I laughed, turning back around. We finally arrived at the doctor, Gage and I got out, then he opened the door for Lea. She giggled and skipped to me. Lea grabbed my hand and watched me. Gage held Lea's other hand. Gage and I looked at each other and nodded. We swung Lea back and forth, making her laugh and scream. Picture perfect family. "Anderson." I told the lady at the front desk. "Down the hall, to the right. Dr. Terry is waiting for you." she said, not even glancing up from her papers. Gage, Lea, and I followed the directions and in fact, the doctor was there. "Hello, Ms. Anderson. Just sit here." he insisted. He tested my blood pressure, temperature, and some other stuff. Then came the ultra sound. "It will be ok." Gage told me, running his fingers through my hair. "I sure hope so."

5 months later

"Well Ms. Anderson, we have some great news!" the doctor yelled when he was watching the monitor. "What is it?" I asked as I squeezed Gage's hand. "You are having two baby girls!" he announced. I snapped my attention to Gage, who had a surprised look on his face. I smiled big and Gage smiled back at me. He kissed me lightly and whispered to me, "I love you." When we got home, I told Lilly the great news. "Really!? That's awesome! What are 'yall gonna name them?" she asked, hugging me. I looked down at the bump and rubbed it. "I don't know. Maybe Cassidy and Chrissie. That ok with you, Gage?" I replied as I took Lea from Lilly's arms. She was watching Lea while Gage and I were at the doctor.

"Yeah, those are beautiful names." he said, kissing my temple. "Hey, can Lucas come over?" Lilly asked, interrupting our moment. "Of course." I laughed. She pumped her arm and went to call Lucas. "So, Lea, are you ready for school?" I questioned her. "Yeah!" she yelled. "Good. Are you going to pre-school?" I joked. "No! I'm going to kindergarten!" she giggled. I laughed and kissed her on the nose. She yawned and stretched her arms out. "Ok, Lea. Time for your nap." Gage sighed, picking her up from my arms. He went my room and shut the door. A few minutes later, I felt arms wrap around my waist. I turned to see Gage's blue eyes staring into mine. I giggled and wormed out of his tight grip. He chased me around the living room, until he got too tired and fell on the couch. I stood at the TV and then arms grabbed me and pulled me back.

He laughed when I fell on top of him. "Opps, sorry. Didn't know I was interrupting something." Lucas said when he walked in. "You weren't, come on in Lucas." I laughed. "So, you must be Gage." Lucas predicted. "Yeah and you're Lucas." Gage chuckled, holding his hand out. They shook hands and then Lucas went to Lilly's guest room. Gage looked at me, then started tickling me. I laughed and screamed and hit Gage, but he kept tickling. "Stop! Gage... can't....breathe." I gasped. He stopped and watched me catch my breath. "My baby's gonna hate you for that." I said stubbornly. "Uh-huh." he said sarcastically. Gage picked me up bridal-style and went into Hanna's old room.

He dropped me on the bed and lay next to me. "So, my love, what shall we do next?" he asked. "Umm, let's go somewhere." I suggested. "Where?" he whispered, turning to face me. "How about your apartment?" I grinned evilly and got up. "Why would you wanna go to my crappy apartment?" Gage laughed. "Alone time." I said innocently. He chuckled and picked me up bridal style. We went over to Lilly's room. "Hey Lilly! Can you watch Lea for us?" Gage called from outside the closed door. "Sure!" she yelled back. We went out to his car and got in. "So, what's your favorite color?" I asked randomly. "Green, what's yours?" he answered. "Umm, probably blue." I laughed. We soon arrived at his apartment, and we both got out. I squirmed while he unlocked the door. He opened the door and we both went inside. Alone time, here we come.
