Unforeseen Secrets - Chapters 2 and 3
Evie meets Dominic a new student at her high school but is that all he is and is this the first time she's met him?
Chapter 2
I placed Melody on my bed and got the clothes and shoes I would use. I placed them on the bed next to Melody then picked her up and walked to Haley's room. Melody was adorable, she had cute blond curls like Aunt Jaime's and Piercing blue eyes filled with life like her dad's, Daryl.
When I got to Haley's room I knocked once, then let myself in not waiting for her to open the door knowing she was probably still asleep and I was right. She was fast asleep on her bed.
"Haley, Wake up!" I yelled making Melody laugh and make baby noises.
"Five more minutes." Groaned Haley who was still half asleep
"No, wake up I have to take a shower and you have to get ready for school and take care of Melody while I'm taking my shower."
"Why don't you take a shower at night like me?" She asked finally pushing of her blanket and getting up.
"Just take care of Melody." I said not bothering to answer her question.
"Fine." I handed Melody to her and she began to cry.
"It's okay Melody, Aunt Haley won't hurt you," said Haley"Just go take a shower, she's probably hungry, I'll give her a bottle."
"Okay." I walked back to my room and got my clothes and shoes.
When I finished changing and taking a shower I looked into the bathroom mirror and wondered why I didn't have a boyfriend. My hair was deep red and almost reached me mid waist. It glowed red in the sun and seemed to radiate a halo of brightness. As for my eyes, they're a dark, vibrant green. My skin was completely flawless, something to do with being a half angel.
I'd never had a serious relationship, it's not that I didn't want to, guys just didn't take me seriously. They toyed around with me and it hurt. I shook off my thoughts when I heard Aunt Jaime talking to Haley downstairs.
"Evie come eat breakfast!" called Aunt Jaime
"Coming." I called back rushing out of the bathroom and downstairs
Aunt Jaime and Haley were tickling Melody who was sitting on her high chair in the kitchen.
"So what's for breakfast?" I asked walking into the kitchen
"Cereal." answered Haley
"Lucky Charms, right?" Haley's favorite cereal was Lucky Charms, she wouldn't eat any other cereal. Once we were running late for school and she still made me go to the store and buy her Lucky Charms.
"Yup."
Once me and Haley finished we said bye to Aunt Jaime and started walking to my best friends house, Ivy. We met 10 years ago, in the second grade. We're like sisters. There have been times when I try and think of how to describe her and how I feel about her but I can't find the right words.
She lives only a street away and given the foregoing we were at her house in around three minutes. I knocked the front door and was surprised when Jeremy, Ivy's younger brother answered the door."
"Wow, you finally woke up on time." I said
"I had to, do you know what it's like having four girls in the house and only two bathrooms?"
I laughed "No but I thought the only girls were your mom and Ivy?"
"My two cousins are visiting from L.A."
"Sucks for you, well I'm going to go see what's taking Ivy so long." I said to both Jeremy and Haley.
"Okay."
"Hurry up."
I knew the way to Ivy's room by heart, actually I knew the whole house by heart. Ivy's room was the only one on the first floor so I was there in a couple of seconds. I knocked once on her door and she came running out, nearly hitting me with the door.
"Are you ready to go?" I asked
"Yea, come on." We hurried outside where Haley waiting impatiently tapping her foot.
Me and Ivy talked the whole way to school but Haley didn't say one word, which was extremely queer. She was usually always putting in her share of remarks, comments, and what not. I would make sure to talk with her after school.
When we got to school Haley was about to go her separate way but I grabbed her from her sweater and whispered "I'm going to talk with you after school." into her ear. She gave me a sad smile and continued walking.
"Come on," said Ivy "Let's go get our new schedule."
"Okay, let's go."
As we were waiting in line to get our schedule I looked Ivy over. She has shoulder length brown hair, at least she said it was brown I thought it was a sort of hazel color. Her eyes appear brown but if you look closer you can see they're a light honey color and in the sun they have a greenish tinge.
I had always admired her looks and though she didn't know until I told her there are a bunch of guys with major crushes on her but there was one guy that stood out, amongst all of them. His name is Kyle, he is the sweetest boy and he's liked Ivy since the 7th grade.
But Kyle made me promise not to tell Ivy he liked her. Even if she never actually said she like him, I knew she did. I wasn't sure if she even knew it herself though.
"Miss Porter!" Mrs. Pearson's loud voice snapped me out of my thoughts. She was my councilor but she could be pretty scary.
"What? Oh. Sorry." I said in a rush, then quickly looked through the small stack of remaining schedule until I found mine.
Ivy found her schedule soon after and we went to the front of the school and sat on a small bench.
"Look," I showed her my schedule "We have four classes together."
"Hey, you're right, I'm glad we didn't only get one class together like last year."
"Yeah that was torturous."
"It was." Agreed Ivy. The bell rang a couple of minutes later and me and Ivy hurried to first period, which we had together.
Our first period was Science with Miss Whitley. I was happy to see Kyle was also in that class. Maybe him and Ivy would be able to get closer than they already were.
"Let's sit over there, by Kyle." Ivy said trying to act nonchalant but I knew she was nervous, she liked Kyle and was afraid to do something embarrassing in front of him and by sitting near him she felt she was risking that. And if you're wondering how I know exactly how she feels it's because I'm a half angel. That's my special gift, I know exactly how people feel.
"Okay, you sit next to him and I'll sit next to you."
"Kay." Ivy was glowing with happiness as we walked over to Kyle and sat down.
"Hi brother." I said to Kyle, leaning over my desk so I could see him past Ivy. I called Kyle brother because he was always protective over me, like a brother. It was one of the many reasons I liked him for Ivy.
"Hey little sis." he said back.
A few minutes of awkward silence between Ivy and Kyle went by until another couple of minutes of awkward conversation until finally they were laughing and talking nonstop, that is until the teacher walked in and gave them a grim look.
My first three periods went by pretty quick with the same usual stuff though there was one thing that was pretty unusual, Kyle and Ivy had all the same classes together, and I mean every single one. I was even beginning to wonder if Kyle had bribed his counselor to give him all the same classes as her.
"How did you guys even get the same two electives in the same class and period?" I asked them as we were walking to fourth period, I didn't have the same class as them for this period though and we would be parting ways pretty soon.
"I don't know, it's really strange but I'm glad it's Kyle and not some weird kid
"Don't you think it's a sign." said Kyle dramatically
"Yea a sign that you're a stalker." I said laughing
"Hey, I didn't stalk her to get the same classes as her."
"You guys are talking about me like I'm not here." Ivy said, playfully rolling her eyes at us.
"Then how did you choose the same electives as her, I mean since when have you been interested in journalism and band?"
"Hey, I don't ask why you took creative writing and journalism."
"What can I say, I like literature.
"Book worm."
"Yea, well I have to go, my class is right over there. I'll see you guys at lunch."
"Bye, bf."
"Bye sis."
I waved goodbye and walked to my class. I was about to walk in when someone took a firm hold of my hand from behind me and pulled me towards them but I managed to stop myself from crashing into whoever it was.
"What the heck do you think you're doing!" I turned and saw what the person but I didn't know who it was. He was a guy around my age and probably a senior like me too. There was something about him that brought butterflies to my stomach. His hair was a beautiful light brown most people could only get when they were standing in the sun. I envied his eyes. They were a very light blue but for a couple of seconds I swear I saw them change to a light gray but that wasn't what I envied about them, it was how they were so filled with life.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Carmona sent me." He said knocking me out of his trance.
"The principal?"
"Yea, I'm new here, and we have all the same classes together so he said you would show me around and help me get to my classes."
"If we have all the same classes then why haven't I seen you in my first three periods?"
"I came late, I was having some uh family trouble."
"Fine but let me make one thing clear, if you do anything that shows you're a jerk, desperate, or a perv, I'm not putting up with it."
"No need to worry, I'm none of those things."
"I hope so and Hurry up, you're going to make us late to class but before that, what's your name?"
"Dominic Bennett, what's yours?"
"Evie, Evie Porter."
"Is Evie short for Evangeline?"
"Yea, how'd you know?
"Just a hunch."
"Oh."

Chapter 3
Who is Dominic's brother and why does Evie need a guardian angel?
-------------------------------
I walked into the class followed by the super hot Dominic. I looked around the classroom and found to lone seats. There was something enticing about Dominic and I couldn't stop myself from grabbing him by the wrist and pulling him towards the seats.
"You can sit there if you want." I casually pointing to one of the two vacant seats.
"Nah," He said with a smirk "I think I'll sit over there." He pointed to a seat across the room.
"Fine, suit yourself." I said like I couldn't care less, which wasn't true.
"Where are you going to sit?"
"Next to where I told you, you could sit."
"Well then I guess I'll take up your offer, after all you are pretty cute."
"Um... thanks" I mumbled slightly blushing.
He sat down in the seat I had secretly wanted him to sit in. I took my seat next to him and thought how great it would be if I could use my powers then I could read his mind like Aunt Jaime always did to me. Sometimes I hardly thought about being in a family descended by angels but it was always there, the thought that I wasn't like other teenagers.
"Miss Porter may I see that note on your desk." Miss Brunt's soft angel-like voice snapped me out of my day dreaming.
"What note?"
"Well the one on your desk, silly." Miss Brunt adored me and she was my favorite teacher. She had never once scolded me, even when I daydreamed. Sometimes she tried to get mad at me but ended up laughing along with me. I looked down at my desk and sure enough there was a folded up note with my name written on top.
"Weird, I didn't even see." I handed it to her and she took it and unfolded it.
"I'm sorry Evie but I'm going to have to read this note out loud." Miss Brunt was also the only teacher who called me by my first name once in a while.
"Evie, I have secretly loved you for the past 3 years, you know me but hardly notice me. Meet me behind the school during lunch but don't tell anyone. Love, your secret admirer. And that's the end of the note. Very touching, so Evie will be going to meet this "Secret admirer"?."
I blushed and looked down at my desk. My classmates were going crazy whispering and laughing "I... don't know." I finally answered
"You should, wouldn't want whoever it is to feel sad."
"Or it could just be a cruel joke."
"I doubt it's that but if it is, tell me and I'll take care of it, no one messes with my pet.
She would sometimes refer to me as her "Pet" because I was a teachers pet, not for every teacher but for her.
"Okay."
"Oh by the way Evie, would you mind showing our new student, Dominic around the school until lunch, I'll excuse you from your fifth period."
"But-" I began but was cut off
"Please, pet?"
"Fine." I said in a stubborn tone.
"Thank you dear."
"Come on Nick, is it okay if I call you Nick instead of Dominic." I asked trying to bother him but I don't think it worked.
"Sure, I don't mind."
"Great," I said sarcastically "Bye Suzy." I said calling Miss Brunt by her first name.
"It's Miss Brunt during school hours!" she called out before me and "Nick" as I would sometimes call him now, left the classroom. I could still hear the commotion inside the classroom in the hallway.
"So where do you want to start your tour or whatever you want to call it?" I asked.
"You're not taking me on a tour."
"But Miss-."
"Evie, do you know what I am?"
"Is that a trick question?"
"Evie." He gripped me by the shoulders shook me. "Do you know what I am." he said again, clenching his jaw.
I was getting ready to say a person when it struck me. I couldn't read his aurora or know what he was feeling, and when I looked into his eyes I heard the familiar flutter of... wings. He was an angel.
"You're an angel." He nodded and gripped my hand.
"Come on, we have to get out of here."
He led me outside and I followed having no clue where he was taking me.
"Dominic you really have to learn to get things done quicker." Came a dark voice from behind us.
"Aaron, what are you doing here?" Dominic said placing himself in front of me. The dark voice belonged to a tall jet black haired guy around his twenties. His hair reached his shoulders and his eyes were a lifeless gray.
"I just wanted to pay my little brother a visit."
Dominic turned to face me and leaned in to whisper in my ear "Go home and lock yourself in your room until I get there."
"Wait, but how do you-."
"No questions, just go."
--------------
I hurried home and locked myself in my room as Dominic had told me to. Questions kept running through my head as I was laying down on my bed waiting for Dominic. What was going on? Who was Aaron? He had referred to Dominic as his little brother. What did I have to do with all of this? How had I missed the fact that Dominic was an angel?
My head was reeling. I wanted to know what was going on.
"I can explain that."
"Jesus, Dominic don't scare me like that!" I said when I saw it was him who had said that. He was sitting down on the edge of my bed. I sat up and stifled a laugh at his curious expression studying my organized and professionally designed room.
"Explain." I said when he finally looked at me again.
"Where do I start?"
"How did you get in?"
"I turned invisible and flied in through the open window."
"I can't believe how normal that sounds."
"Yea well things are about to get a lot less normal."
"What do you mean?" I hoped desperately this had nothing to do with angels.
"You're out of luck."
"Would you stop reading my mind!" I yelled.
"Sorry."
"Yea, well anyway just explain."
"Have you heard of guardian angels?"
"Yea half angels have them, except me and my sister, Haley."
"That's not true."
"What part?"
"I'm your guardian angel."
"What? No, no, I don't want this, I don't need a guardian angel." I didn't need more of this angel stuff in my life. When I was little it seemed magical and amazing but now...
"It's not something you can say no to. Look I know it seems weird now but give it some time. I have to go now."
Wings began to appear on his back, though I'd seen this a million times from Aunt Jaime and her husband Daryl, seeing Dominic do it was different. It was wonderful and barely believable. At first they appeared faded but sharpened by the second. When they fully appeared I saw they were jet black with white around the edges. I sat on my bed transfixed.
