Unexpected Surprise

Chloe and Ryan really hit it off for the day but of course they were rewarded with a completely unexpected surprise.
"Hello?" I asked quietly, answering the phone.
"Chloe? It's Ryan. I just got a new phone," his voice was loud and booming with excitement on the other side of the line.

"Oh." I sighed relieved. "Hey Ryan." Ryan was my new boyfriend of three days. I had always had a crush on him but until recently I hadn't really known that I liked him. Really liked him.

"So, where are you?" he asked. He sounded a little nervous. Shy, was the best word I could use to describe him. I thought it was cute.
I looked around my bedroom. The sunlight was just trickling in through my curtains. "You do know that it is barely nine in the morning, right?"

"Well, if you're not doing anything I was wondering if you would mind spending the whole day with me?" he asked me patiently.
"Like a date in the day?" I asked messing with him.
"Exactly that." he replied. "So, what do you say? Please?"
I laughed "Of course I will come silly."
"Great.. yeah awesome."

"What do I need to wear?" I asked getting right to the point. He had asked for the whole day so I'm guessing he had something planned.
"Clothes are optional," He joked, "No um wear whatever you want."
His little comment made me blush. I giggled and ran through my dresser with my free hand. "Are you..."

"I'm kind of already at your house." He confessed, cutting me off mid sentence.
"Oh. Really?" I peeked out my window and sure enough a sleek black car in my driveway. I waved.
"Can I come in?" he asked. I watched him slide out of the driver seat before I could answer. I hung up, set the phone down and started running through my house to the front door.

"Mom! Ryan's here," I yelled right before arriving at the door. I ran my fingers through my straight black hair and slightly adjusted my red tickle me Elmo t-shirt.
I opened the door to find a very handsome Ryan standing there smiling at me. His brown hair had a few bed head straggling pieces going in every direction, and he was wearing a green aeropostale button up shirt with khaki shorts and flip flops.
"Uh. Chloe?" he said. I realized I had been staring at him for too long.
"Of course, come in. Sorry," I said. He laughed, which made me feel better. "Hang on let me go change real quick," I added.

I turned around to go back down the hallway to my bedroom but Ryan grabbed my hand and pulled me back around to face him. I looked at him puzzled. He pulled me closer, softly he whispered into my ear "Baby, your beautiful." His lips traced a line from my ear to my lips.

My heartbeat quickened. His lips on mine felt like fire. He kissed me lovingly, slow. I reached my hands up to his face, but the quick brush of my fingertips on his skin made him relax and the kiss broke. I flashed a smile at him before returning to my bedroom.
I changed into some Hollister shorts but kept my tickle me Elmo shirt on. I put a little makeup on, brushed my teeth, ran a brush through my hair once, and grabbed my purse making sure to put my phone back in it.

When I opened my bedroom door I heard voices in the hallway. I crept silently through the hall trying to eavesdrop. I figured out it was my mom talking with Ryan about what he planned on doing today.
"She would like that a lot," my mom said.
"I was hoping she would," he answered. "But don't tell her. Not even one little hint," he joked.
"Your secret is safe with me." She answered "Well you two have fun. It was nice meeting you."
"You too." He said in reply though I doubt he actually meant it.
I took a step forward, revealing myself "What was that about?" I asked curiously.

He turned his head to look at me and a smile grew from his lips. "N-nothing" he stuttered. I laughed at him. His expression was adorable.

Ryan reached his hand out to grab mine. I let him take my hand and lead me out the door to his car. Once inside, he instantly started the car and backed out of the driveway. "Where are we going?" I asked.
"It's a secret." He replied without looking at me, but I saw him smile.
"Why is it a secret?"
"Why do you ask so many questions?"
"I like to know what the plan is."
"The plan is to surprise you."
"You're not going to tell me, are you?"
"I don't plan on it."
The car stopped. I looked up to see that we were at a stop sign. When I turned back to look at Ryan, I saw he was already looking at me, smiling. I gazed into his eyes. He stared at me, expression unchanged. We sat like that for what seemed like forever. A car horn honked from behind us, forcing us out of it.
"Please?" I asked one more time.

"No way. It will be fun, I promise. Don't worry about it," he answered as he focused on driving again.
After about ten minutes of sitting the silenced car, Ryan stopped and pulled into a familiar parking lot. He shut the car off and just stared straight ahead out the windshield. I wasn't quite sure what he was waiting for but I didn't want to ask another question. I just waited for him to stop waiting.

"When... well um... earlier," Ryan stuttered "At your house, was that... was that okay?"
"When you randomly kissed me?" I asked, only realizing it was another question after I asked it.
"Yeah. Like, I don't know, maybe you think it's too early or something. I guess I should have asked first but..." I cut him off in mid sentence by lifting a finger up to his lips. He looked down at it with his beautiful green-blue eyes. I unbuckled my seat belt and leaned closer to him.

"Ryan, it was perfect." I whispered. I saw him smile sheepishly before I closed my eyes and pushed my lips against his. He kissed back softy, not like before.
I heard a seat belt click and the kiss broke. I opened my eyes, maybe this was a bad time. He looked at the clock and smiled again, "Sorry but we have to get going if we're going to make it on time," he said opening up his door.

I frowned. I didn't even know where we needed to go or what we were going to do when we got there. I grabbed my purse and opened up the door. Of course, Ryan was standing right there waiting for me. He was smiling, excited I could tell. When he saw my face his expression faltered a little bit.
"Chloe, baby, don't be upset," He said grabbing my hands, "Everything will be okay, I promise."

"I just want to know what we're doing," I said looking at our hands.
"It's a surprise. You like surprises. What else is bothering you?"
"Well it's just... you don't kiss me for very long."

He let go of my hands and let them flop to my sides. He grabbed my chin softy pulling it upward so that I was looking directly at him. "It's because, you are worth more to me than just a make out session in the car. If I could, I would kiss you all day, every day, for the rest of my life until you got tired of me. But the thing is, if that's all we did you would get tired of me and I really don't want that to happen so soon."

I smiled. That was sweet, and he did have a point. "Okay okay. You win," I gave in.
He let go of my chin but leaned his face in towards mine. "You can kiss me whenever you want, you know," He winked.

I laughed and kissed his cheek, "We need to get going remember?"
"Oh yeah," He said, "I almost forgot." He grabbed one of my hands and pulled it along with him out of the parking lot, like a dog leading his owner.

Surprisingly, for the time of day, it was a busy street. People were wandering around everywhere. The streets were not bumper to bumper but they were pretty close. All the stores were squished together, most were family owned shops or hair salons that I have never heard of. In between the squished stores were some very dark alleys. I tried to stay away from those by putting Ryan in between me and them.

Ryan was just happy walking along, leading the way, but honestly, this place was giving me the creeps. The people looked like they came from all sorts of different places from around the world, speaking languages I have never heard before.

Suddenly my cell phone rang and I tugged on Ryan's shoulder to let him know I needed to stop. I pulled it out of my purse and flipped it open, "Hello?" I asked. I listened hard into the phone but I could not hear an answer. I motioned for Ryan to follow me as I started to walk towards the empty alley. "Hello?" I asked again. The phone beeped telling me the call had ended.

I looked at the recent log and realized it was my mother. "My mom, I really should call her back." I said out loud. I redialed the phone and looked at him, he was walking around in circles. I shook my head, smiling. My mom didn't answer so I left her a message saying that she should just text me.
"Chloe!" Ryan yelled. I looked up at him, he was a good ten feet away from me looking scared and worried.

Confused, I took a step towards him. That's when I felt it. It was a sense of heat at first before turning instantly cold. I closed my eyes and let it happen. It didn't hurt exactly, it was just extremely unexpected. I wanted to scream but I couldn't find my voice. I could hear Ryan's footsteps getting closer. He was laughing at me.
"I warned you." He said, still laughing.

"No, you yelled my name. A warning would have been 'Chole. Watch out. You're about to get a whole bunch of water dumped on your head.'" I said annoyed. I was dripping wet. I shook my arms out.

"Hey watch it. Your getting water all over me." Ryan said.
"Oh really? Really? You think that is a lot of water? Come here. I will show you a lot of water!" I rushed right up to him and gave him a huge hug, one of the biggest ones I have probably ever given. At first his body went rigid, but he soon gave in and hugged me back.

We were both laughing by then. When I let go and took a step back, he showed me how wet I had made him and it was like a puddle compared to a lake. This made us laugh even more.
After we had both calmed down, "Do you want to trade me shirts?"
"Trade you shirts? As in I wear yours and you wear mine?" I asked, confused.
"No. No. I mean You wear my shirt and I go shirtless."
"Oh um... ok but..."

"I will block the road from viewing you and I promise I won't look."
"It's not you I am worried about Ryan, it's the creepers that might be around."
"I will protect you from anything out there baby. You can trust me."
"I do trust you. Ok I guess. Um..." I said but I got distracted by Ryan who was unbuttoning his shirt. "What are you doing?" I asked.

"Distracting you. Is it working?" He said focusing on his buttons. I watched him as he slowly showed me his tan chest, strong abs, and tiny tummy.
In my mind I was drooling. "Yeah its working, Completely working." It was hard to try to keep my attention on his face.

"Well than this will really work." He said stepping towards me, really close. He gently cupped my face and brought his lips down hard against mine.
I tried to fight it, but it was useless. This was my weak spot. Instead of the fire I was expecting I felt more of an electric shock running to my core from his lips. I kissed back, wrapping my arms around his neck. He stepped forward trying to get closer but my balance was off. My mind was so out of focus. We stumbled backwards until we hit a wall of a store, giggling between kisses.

Now as close as we could get to each other, he put the tips of his fingers underneath the bottom of my wet shirt. His touch was warm against my skin. Slowly he slid my shirt up over my back. I could still feel the line of heat from his fingers against my back. He broke away from me, breathing heavily.

I pulled my shirt over my head and onto the ground, and then I ran my hands up his stomach. We started kissing again. I closed my eyes, enjoying the moment. His hands were somewhere else, not on me. I wrapped my arms around his shirtless body trying to get closer hopefully encouraging him to get back into it but the electricity was lost and soon I felt a shiver run down my naked spine.

"Here." He said putting his shirt over my shoulders. I put my arms through the sleeves and began buttoning the shirt without saying a word. I was trying to savor the taste of him.
When I looked up he was smiling at me again with that sheepish smile. "what?" I asked, leaning my back against the wall again.

"Nothing, it's just... you look beautiful, even in my clothes." He whispered.
I had no clue what to say. There were butterflies in my stomach. I reached up and wrapped my arms around his neck, kissing his perfect lips.

"Oh look what we have here. She's pretty cute. He has got to go." A male voice said from behind us. I was about to let go to see who it was, when Ryan's body went rigid.
"Chloe. I... I'm sorry. I let... you... down." He sputtered. Something was wrong. His weight fell on me like he couldn't stand. I pushed him off and he instantly fell over the other way, onto the pavement. His eyes were wide open looking almost confused. He was gone. Dead.

"Ryan. No no no. Ryan!" I yelled. He died right there in front of me, in my arms. I knelt down. "No. this is ... Ryan. Please. No. please, please, please, don't go. Stay with me. Ryan." I was shaking uncontrollably. The tears started running down my face. This was all my fault.

"Awe how touching. Chloe was it?" The voice said again. I looked up but my vision was blurred because of the tears.

If he killed Ryan without a reason what would stop him from killing me? I stood up and looked at the man. He couldn't have been older than twenty. "I love you Ryan. You did not let me down." I said before turning around and running away.

I didn't make it very far. I only got a couple of steps before I heard the gunshot, and then felt it. It hurt a lot, simply unbearable hurt. I fell down, face first. I couldn't feel my arms, so I could not move them in front of me to catch my fall. As soon as I hit the pavement I knew I was done for. That was it. The end of the line. The end of me. Simply the end.
