Unexpected Super Love

A 26 yr old Carly just might fall in love for the first time...with a superhero, or a freak? You decide!
It was a beautiful day on the beach. The breeze wisped through Sarah’s hair when there in the distance was Jake. They have been longing for each other for quite some time…"BAARRF!" Sneered Carly as she changed the channel quickly. "Is it corny movie day?" Carly asked looking down at the twelve year old, chubby ball of fluff also known as Furball. Furball yawned, stretched, and squeezed out a lazy ‘meow’. Passing through countless mushy movies, Carly was now convinced it was corny movie day. That’s all Valentine ’s Day was to her. "There we go, that’s better." Carly finally settled with Halloween on the Fear station. Immediately relieved, she leaned back in her comfy chair and tuned in to her favorite horror film.

Carly, or Carolynn Renee Wynbrook as specified on her birth certificate, was your typical average twenty six year old bachelorette. Carly wasn’t aware of her good looks often envied by her friends and family. She is five foot and eleven inches, curvy in all the right places, but small in the waist. Her style, or lack there of, was pretty average. Her closet was full of baby doll tees, band shirts and faded flare jeans with the exception of a nice blouse or two. (For those blind dates her best friend is always hooking her up with) Her long wavy brown hair looks great any way she chooses to wear it, which is usually down past her shoulders and stops right around the middle of her back.

Carly was just getting into the movie when the T.V. screen went black. "Oh, C’mon…just my luck!" Carly’s house had lost power and by the timely ringing of her cell phone, so had Jade’s. Jade is Carly’s next door neighbor and best friend. Jade was also the more mature of the two while still being three years younger than Carly. "What the hell’s goin’ on?" Jade demanded an answer. "How should I know? It’s the middle of the day. A beautiful day at that." Replied Carly with a little confusion. "That’s strange, probably the Wilson’s kids playing mad scientist in their garage again." Jade joked. "Ha ha, you’re probably right." Laughed Carly. Jade always knew how to make Carly laugh, even when she was depressed or upset. Jade had the older sister/best friend qualities that were just right for a best friend.

Blackouts were common in Baltimore City. That’s right. Born and raised in the Murder/Drug capitol of the world, or at least the East Coast. Carly didn’t mind. She liked her neighborhood and loved her neighbor. It felt a little cramped in a one bedroom row home for Carly but she couldn’t imagine sharing it with another person. Jade lived with her fiancé Brad. He is an ok guy although Carly sometimes gets jealous at her lack of friend time with Jade. She usually just shakes it off while her mom’s words echo in her head…"Carly, a selfish friend is no friend at all". Carly’s mom lives across town, but as often as they see each other one might think they are miles apart. Carly’s mom’s is always busy with work and volunteering at the school where Matt, Carly’s little brother, attends.

Carly and chatted with Jade for a bit while getting ready for work. Carly is a great multitasker. "Are you getting dressed while talking to me?" Giggled Jade. "What gave it away?" Asked Carly. Jade replied "Well somewhere between you dropping the phone and hearing you zip up your pants. Hey speaking of zipping up your pant’s, how was the date last night with Brad’s friend?" "Ha, I almost forgot. I actually believe I fell asleep in my soup at one point." "Was that before or after you climbed out the bathroom window?" Jade asked sarcastically. "No, not this time" Laughed Carly. "Well, I better get going. I’m sure the electric company will have the power up and running soon." "O.K. Have a good night at work Carlz." "Yea right, I can’t wait to smell like butter and have a coke poured on me." Carly grumbled. Carly worked as a night time manager for a movie theater. The pay wasn’t that great but the only perk was she got to see any movie she wanted.

Carly hopped into her little Mitsubishi and proceeded to head to the mall. She began flipping through the stations on the radio…static "beeeep, a test of the emergency broadcast station. I repeat this is not a tes…" "Jeez, no music on the radio these days!" Carly barked as she dug through her cd collection till she came across a Green Day cd from the earlier years. Carly looked up from her cd collection and slammed on the breaks. "What?! A traffic jam? Great. I’ll definitely be late now."

The traffic jam was a result of people gawking at the blur moving through the air and around the skyscrapers. Carly was at the back end of the jam and didn’t score a glimpse of what everyone two blocks up saw. "Ugh, Finally!" She was relieved when the bumpers began to separate and cars started to move.
