Puffiness Under Eyes
Bags or puffiness under the eyes is a kind of mild swelling that may be caused due to a variety of reasons. As the skin around the eyes is very sensitive, any minor cause can result in swelling. It is one of the most common conditions experienced by people all over the world. Causes
Most of the causes do not seem to be related to eyes. Hence, one may find it difficult to relate these causes with puffiness of the eyes. Dehydration is the most important cause of swelling under eyes. Loss of water and fluids in the body due to excess perspiration can give rise to puffy eyelids. Secondly, under eye puffiness can also be caused as an allergic reaction to certain foodstuffs or products. Most of the time, it is found that puffy eyes are also caused due to an allergic reaction of beauty and make-up products. Aging, heredity and sleep deprivation are also prominent causes of puffy eyes. On the other hand, puffy eyes in the morning can be caused due to excess crying, alcoholism, sleeping flat on the back, consuming excess salt, etc.
Treatment
As mentioned above, this is not a serious medical concern and hence, does not require any treatment. In case the puffiness is regular or is caused due to heredity, it can be treated through laser treatment. On the other hand, cosmetic surgical procedures like blepharoplasty are used to reshape and permanently cure bags under eyes. Similarly, allergies can be treated with antihistamines. Taking diuretics also helps in reducing eye puffiness.
Home Remedies
Apart from the treatment methods, there are several home remedies that can be used to reduce the puffiness under eyes. In most of the cases, it is found that the home remedies are more effective. Following are some home remedies that will be beneficial to you.
- Keep a cold compress over your eyes for some time. You can even wet a towel in cool water and keep in on your eyes.
- Eye gels can also be used to treat under-eye puffiness.
- Use an concealer if you wish to treat the swelling immediately.
- Soak tea bags in water and keep them on your eyes for a few minutes.
- Sometimes merely splashing cold water over face can also help.
