At Rachel's house, we each got dressed, trying to look our absolute best. We always had extra clothes at each other's house for sleepover and moments like these.
"How about we all wear something similar?" Maggie said to us, while we rummaged in Rachel's closet.
"That is too corny and lame, don't you think?" Felicity yelled from the bathroom.
"I know," I yelled, a vision popping into my head. "Are those four dresses we bought downtown, still here. You know the short strapless ones that we each got in different colors."
"I think so." Rachel dove into her huge closet, that was actually a mini bedroom until Rachel begged her parents to tear the wall down that separated it and make it her closet.
"Found them," she shouted, her voice muffled. She ran out of the closet with the four dresses, each bright and stylish. "This is actually a great idea Maggie."
Felicity stuck her head out of the bathroom and her hair was bunch on top of her hair in some wicked up. "Yeah Maggie, I hate to say it, but you're brilliant."
I silently laughed at how no one realized the dresses were my idea. Guys can fall at my feet like flies but my girls would ignore me in a heartbeat. Maggie stood there with a smile on her face. Maggie wasn't dumb, she just hated exerting energy on anything she deemed not worth her time. Felicity and even Rachel sometimes, never seemed to understand that.
"Well, what are we waiting for. Let's put them on," I said smiling. Rachel passed out each dress. Maggie put on the green one and it made her red hair look like flames. Felicity rushed over and grabbed the blue. Rachel kept the yellow, which made her dark skin glow and I was left with the red. Red had always felt powerful to me. Rachel actually called it my diva color.
By the time we were all, ready, Rachel's parents came home. "Where are you girls going?" Rachel 's mother asked us we walked down the stairs looking like a bunch of Deal or No Deal models.
Rachel quickly chimed in "A friend of ours is throwing a party tonight and he invited us."
"Okay, well have fun. Don't do anything stupid." And with that we were gone. Rachel's mom was the nicest in the world. As long as we didn't act stupid, we could do anything. But if we used stupidity, well let's just say just because she isn't my mom, doesn't mean she wouldn't ground me for life.
We all sat in our respective seats in the car and Rachel drove off into night. "Where's the party?" I asked, a little excited. I looked over at each of them and Felicity piped up.
"I forgot. Sorry, I have his number though. I'll just ask him." She began dialing. He picked up on the second ring. "Hi, Dion, it's Felicity. Ha ha ha, I know. Listen, I like totally forgot the address. I know! Okay. 501 Washington St. Oh okay. I'm still getting ready anyway, you know, a girl has to put on her face. Ha ha ha, I know. Okay, I'll be seeing you pretty soon. Awww thank you. Bye."
When she was off the phone, I turned and put my finger down my throat. Felicity just rolled her eyes and said, "So he said 501 Washington, like you heard, and he said no one's there yet." Of course no one was there. I thought looking at my cell. It's 8:00pm. No one would be there until 9:00.
"Let's go eat," I said. "Waste some time while we fill our stomachs."
"Ugh, I'm on a strict diet, Jo. You know that." Felicity said with a loud groan. Rachel rolled her eyes while Maggie tapped my shoulder. "Hey," she whispered, so only I would hear. "Ignore Ms. Vomits-A-Lot. I'm actually pretty hungry."
"To McDonald's it is," I shouted while Felicity wailed, "Oh no, the bane of existence."
"Don't be so melodramatic. Just buy a salad." I said with a smile. We went to the nearest McDonald's and relaxed for an hour. By the time we were off, on the road again. Felicity had caved and ate a Big Mac.
"Ugh, I don't feel so good," she said from the back.
I turned around in my seat to face her. "You better keep that down. We had this conversation."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Don't worry about that, but I just really don't feel well." I stared her down for another minute.
"Seriously," she said, I nodded and turned around.
"501 Washington St." Rachel said, stopping the car. I looked out the window, and my jaw dropped. I didn't think houses could get that big New York City. The white house took up half the block. Compared to the others, this one was like a giant.
Rachel, nodded toward the house. "Well, now we know he's definitely rich. And people look like they're having a good time, too." I looked at the groups sitting on the lawns bobbing their heads to the loud music that blasted through the windows. They're was a group of teens drunkenly dancing over near a tree.
"Why are, we still sitting here. Let's go inside. "Felicity yelled, jumping out from the back seat.
"I thought you were sick," I said, getting out as well.
"I still am, but I'd rather go inside and dance. It'll probably help." I could tell she was being honest.
"Alright girls, I think we should go in separately. Felicity, you go in first, since you were invited and actually said yes. Go and distract him, if he's greeting people at the door, then flirt your ass off and bring him to the kitchen or something. Whatever you do, don't bring him to the bedroom. When you get him somewhere far away from the front and bedroom, which I assume is upstairs, give one of us a call and we'll take five-minute intervals to go in. I'll be last, and I'll head straight for the stairs, and search for his bedroom. Rachel and Maggie you guys just avoid Dion. If you do happen to see him, act as if you decided to come anyway at the last-minute. Try to avoid staying near each other. I'll text you all when I find something. We'll meet in a bathroom. I'll look for one on the second floor. Are we ready." I said giving them each a separate look.
Felicity started to laugh. "After that speech we'll need a 'go team go'. cheer." She began to laugh but when no one joined in, she looked at Maggie for support. Maggie ignored her. I, instead laughed. "Felicity, get over yourself and go inside. Text us when you get him away from the door. Felicity walked away sulking until she reached the front step and straightened her back.
"One down, three to go," I said turning away, not really wanting to watch her go inside.
"Are you scared," Maggie asked.
"No, I'm excited actually. It's not everyday I get to sneak into a guys room that doesn't actually dream that it would happen."
Rachel scoffed. "You are so conceited."
"No, just confident," Maggie said.
"Overly confident," Rachel said under her breath, then hugged me.
"Ha ha ha, funny," I said sarcastically but returned her hug. In the middle of the embrace, I felt my bra suddenly vibrate. Rachel jumped back in surprise. I quickly said, "It's my cell." I took it out from between my chest and looked at the message.
"It's Felicity, she said that he's already in the kitchen and she'll keep him occupied. So I guess you can go in Maggie. Remember avoid Dion.
"But won't everyone see us walk in any way.Someone will tell Dion," Maggie asked. I could see that she was slowly turning into shy Maggie. I really didn't need that now.
"They'll tell him later not now. As long as I can get in upstairs, we'll be fine. He'll eventually know we're here. That's our point." Maggie's face still looked a little green.
"Come on Maggie. Rachel just go with her please." Rachel just nodded and they both were on their way.
Which left only me pacing. I could see that across the street , the people on the grass took notice of me. One of them stood up and crossed the street toward me.
"Hey," the guy called from a few yards away. "You know, you can just go in right. I mean if you're trying to crash, I don't think Dion will care. I know he said the invitation thing was important but I know like five of my friends just came without one."
I smiled at him and he stepped into the street lamp's light. It was some freshman, who I think I saw in the hallway once or twice. "Yeah I know, I'm just waiting for a friend."
"Your friends all went inside already." He said with a smile.
I took his comment as if he had just made fun of me. "Look here, whatever your name is."
"Paul," he said with a smile.
"Look Paul. I'm not in the mood to have some freshman make fun of me." I ended up leaning towards him with my finger pointed in his face. But instead of backing away, he stood his ground. I hadn't noticed he was actually six inches taller than me.
"I'm not a freshman. I actually don't even go to your school. I'm new. To the neighborhood, I mean." He finally took a step back and held out his hand.
"Oh another new one," I said looking at his hand.
"Yes, me and Dion go a ways back." And then he smiled. Before I could say anything my phone vibrated. I reached my hand in between my chest and Paul raised an eyebrow but then shrugged.
UR SAFE. GO!
"Gotta go, Paul. It was nice talking to you." I rushed away, but I could still hear Paul chuckling over my shoulder.
When I reached the front door, I took a deep breath and pushed it open. Automatically, the smell of beer hit my nose. I never really like the smell of it, so I held my breath and walked on. I pushed past a group of girls giggling about, what I guessed was a cute boy on the other side of the room.
I walked past them, feeling that the coast was finally clear, except for a few drunk guys, standing by the fireplace. Their eyes followed me as I walked toward the staircase which was only a few yards away.
Feeling that their eyes on me only meant bad things. I tried to walk faster but was cut off by another group of guys. Quickly the fireplace drunks joined them.
"Ugh, not tonight." The guys actually began to close in around me. "Seriously guys stop it. Ewww," I squelched as a sweaty sophomore dry-humped my leg. Another tried to play in my hair while another kissed up my arm. I could count at least 12 arms feeling on me.
"Alright, if you guys don't get off me, I'm kicking the first set of balls I come in contact with." None of them moved. I think more guys actually drifted over.
Oh my god, I thought. I'm going to drown in a sea of boys. But soon the hands that were once groping me, were being pulled off, one by one. I silently thanked the heavens. Finally Rachel and Maggie had come to save me, but instead the face I saw as the last guy slowly sulked away was David's from English.
"Hey honey, aren't you glad I was here to save you." He reached over to caress my face but I slapped it down quickly.
"Not now," I said in a rush, then added, " I have to use the bathroom." I ran for the stairs and David called. "Alright, but we really don't belong up there". I ignored him and finally got up the stairs, surprisingly intact.
"That was harder than I thought," I said out loud, as I looked down the dark hallway. I felt around for a light switch and flipped it to see a wide, beige hallway.
"To find his bedroom," I said, looking at each door. I walked slowly, hearing the faint murmur of my heels on the beige carpet Alongside the now low bass of the music. There were at least 10 doors and I peeked through each. When I reached the end of the hall the last door stood out like a sore thumb. A huge Beware The Doom, yellow and black poster was plastered on the door without any care. The door had teenager written all over it.
I reached out my hand to turn the knob and expected to feel no leeway but the door opened with ease.
Inside, I expected to see the room a mess. Probably piles of clothes strewn around or maybe some random science experiment on the ground. But I was extremely disappointed. Everything was spotless. There wasn't even a sheet on the bed. Hoping for anything at all, I checked his dresser and closet but not even a single shirt was to be found.
I left the room intact and made my way up to the next floor. He may have decided to change his room, I thought optimistically to myself. But sadly the third floor looked identical to the second with doors upon doors but nothing behind them.
What is up with his room, I thought bitterly as I went back down to the second floor. I guess it did make a little sense since he had obviously just moved in. Still contemplating this, I slipped into the bathroom. With a quick text, Rachel, Maggie and Felicity made their way into the now crowded bathroom.
"Okay if anyone catches us up here, our excuse is 'We're having girl issues'". My girls nodded in agreement.
