Not really sure what direction I should take this. Feedback would be awesome!
"Do you think Jason would like the red dress or the blue dress better? I mean red’s a great color for my skin tone, but you can never go wrong with turquoise." My best friend Ashley rambled.
"The red one." I muttered without looking up from the book I had brought along. Book Title Here had saved me from many shopping expeditions just like this one.
"Macy this is serious! This is me and Jason’s first dance together and I want it to be perfect!"
I sighed and pried my eyes away from my book to take a look at the dresses that Ashley held up. "I still say the red one Ash. It really looked great on you." And it makes your platinum blonde hair look amazing I added jealousy curling my boring, ordinary black hair around my fingers.
"Your right May I look amazing in red. I know! I can wear my new earrings with it too! Aren’t you excited Macy? This is our first high school dance!"
"Mhmm." I mumbled already going back to my reading. I definitely wasn’t excited though. Unlike hot, popular, and taken Ashley I was nobody. The only reason I ever got invited to anything was because I was Ashley’s friend. Face it, who would want to go out with bookworm Macy King when they could go out with someone like Ashley?
"Hey May why don’t you buy this turquoise one? It would look great on you! Maybe it could even get you a boyfriend!" With that she gave me a little wink and started dancing around me with it saying, "Buy me Macy. Please!"
I finally put my book down and looked up at my best friend who was acting like she was Cinderella on her way to the ball. "I might not even go Ashley. I mean isn’t it kind of embarrassing to go without a date?"
"Definitely NOT! That would make it even more fun because then you’re free to dance with anyone and everyone who comes your way. If I wasn’t already going out with Jason and he asked me to homecoming I would just turn him down. Just like that. I mean I wouldn’t want to be tied down for our first high school dance." Then she put her mouth to my ear and whispered, "There will be senior boys there!" She giggled giddily and grabbed my arm and forcefully shoved me into a dressing room along with the turquoise dress. "Just try it one May. What’s the harm in that?"
I sighed but decided it wasn’t worth arguing. I’ve been Ashley’s best friend since Pre-K and I don’t think I’ve ever won an argument against her.
I walked out of the dressing room and mocked one of Ashley’s little twirls. I even gave her a little curtsy and asked her, "Well what do you think Ash? Is this dress going to catch me my prince charming?"
"Oh My God May. You look hot!" I turned to see her mouth agape and the edges of her mouths curved up in an astonished grin. I looked in the mirror and sure enough the girl staring dumbfounded back was me! My hair was still pulled back into a mess of a ponytail, but without my usual t-shirt and jeans I had boobs! And a butt! "You are so meeting your prince charming if you’re wearing that! Who knew my best friend was hot? Now we’re going to have to do something about that hair, but no worries I’m sure I can manage something"
She rambled on about my accessories and makeup, but I couldn’t really tell you what she was talking about. I was too amazed too think straight. When I finally regained control over my voice I declared, "I am getting this dress!"
