Uncover The Top Fire Safety Tips Every Family Must Know

Don't wait till it's too late to keep your family out of harms way. Every parent and child should be aware of their homes fire prevention plan in the case of fire. There are easy steps that should be followed that will have a major impact on your families well being in the case of an emergency.
As parents, our children are most precious to us in all the world. It is important that our kids know and understand the dangers of fire and fire hazards within the home. Here are the Top Ten Tips for your children when it comes to fire safety:

1. Do not play with matches or lighters. Matches and lighters may seem cool as playthings, but they are dangerous. If you want to light a match, ask your mom if you can light a candle for her when she is cooking in the kitchen.

2. Know to stop, drop, and roll, if you should ever catch on fire. Running gives the fire more oxygen, which makes it worse. Do not panic. If you realize you have caught on fire, first stop, then drop to the floor, and roll to smother the flames.

3. Help your parents keep an eye out for safety hazards. Talk to your parents, and ask them what safety hazards are in your home. This way, you can help your parents keep your home and family safe from a fire. Also become aware of the fire safety tools, such as the fire extinguisher and fire blankets, in your home in case of an emergency.

4. Pick up your toys and keep your room clean. Though your parents tell you this, there is a reason other than cleanliness. If a fire occurs, toys or piles of clothes on the floor of your room can hinder your escape.

5. Plan fire escape routes. If you and your parents have not already planned fire escape routes for member of the family, do so. Having a plan helps each family member know what to do and where to go in case a fire occurs.

6. Practice your fire escape routes. It is great to have an escape route, but what good is it if it is never practiced? In this case, practice makes perfect, and fire safety is no exception.

7. Turn off the TV and unplug the video game system or the computer when you are done using them. Electronic devices pose as fire hazards when they are left on and are unattended. It be a pain to turn it back on, but it could save your home.

8. Know to call 9-1-1 in case of an emergency. In case of any emergency, whether it is a health emergency or a fire, call 9-1-1. But remember, in the case of a fire, first get out, then go to a neighbor’s and call from a safe distance.

9. Look out for your younger siblings. If you have brothers or sisters that are younger than you, look out for them, and teach them about the dangers of fire and the importance of fire safety.

10. Tell your friends about fire safety. You love your friends, so talk to them about fire, and explain to them what they can do to help keep their families safe.

Fire safety is important, and kids need to be aware of the hazards within their own homes and things they can do to help keep everyone safe. Simply showing your kids a safety list and posting it on the refrigerator can help them stay safe.
