Bridgeport, Connecticut police were summoned Wednesday to a local daycare center to investigate a charge of child abuse to a three-year-old boy in their care.
When officers arrived, day care staff reported that when they had changed the boy’s shirt, they noticed large bruises indicating adult-sized bite marks on almost every part of his body: stomach, shoulder, legs, buttocks, and back.
The boy, whose name has not been released to the press, told the police that his uncle Hector had bitten him.
When Hector Pulido, 40, arrived at the day care to pick up his nephew, he was questioned by the officers and apparently admitted he did bite his nephew, saying he was trying to "teach him not to bite anyone."
There were no available reports as to the whereabouts of the child’s parents, or whether Pulido was the toddler’s legal guardian.
The child was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center for treatment and evaluation of his wounds, and the local department of Children and Family Services informed of the incident.
Pulido was taken into police custody, where superior court judge Michael Maronich issued an order to hold him in lieu of $100,000 bail. Pulido has been charged with risk of injury to a minor and third-degree assault.
His case will be heard next Thursday.
