Ultrasonic Humidifiers - Everything You Need to Know

What you need to know when choosing an ultrasonic humidifier from what to look for to why these humidifiers are considered the best amongst humidifiers.
If you’ve ever experienced static electricity, fly-away hair, dry skin or chapped lips then you know full well what it’s like when there is low humidity. The air becomes dry and so does everything else from your body to your furniture, wood flooring and even your wallpaper which can peel off your walls.

The dry air can also create problems for people with asthma or allergies. It can cause dry and scratchy throats and make breathing more difficult. People with sinus problems may notice more frequent sinus headaches and if you are prone to chapped lips or dry skin it will be even worse when the humidity is low. Our furniture can also suffer. If you have noticed the wood splitting then the culprit is probably the low humidity. Often you will see floorboards that have suffered this fate as they warp in response to the dry air. It can be a costly exercise to replace them so preventing this from happening to begin with is the best way to avoid it.

To combat these problems, moisture has to be added back to the air in order to increase the humidity. In the home, this can be achieved through the use of a humidifier.

Humidifiers come in a variety of types and styles so deciding on which is the best can be confusing. Ultrasonic humidifiers are considered to be one of the best types of humidifier for a variety of reasons.
  • Ultrasonic humidifiers are generally quieter than most other types of humidifier which makes them ideal to use in the bedroom.
  • They are energy efficient which means that the cost to run them is a lot lower than some other humidifiers.
  • Ultrasonic humidifiers emit a cool or warm fog as opposed to steam vaporizers which emit, as the name suggests, steam. This can be a safety issue particular if you have children in the house.
When choosing an ultrasonic humidifier ensure it has the following features:
  • A demineralization cartridge which ensures that dust isn’t spread around the room.
  • An anti-bacterial system which as the name suggests prevents the build up of bacteria. This is a definite must have as without it you could be spreading harmful bacteria around your room.
  • The ability to recognize the amount of humidity in the room and the ability to automatically turn on and off as the humidity changes in response to your pre-programmed settings.
  • A built in hygrometer which will measure the amount of humidity in the room.
