Types of Lilac Bushes

Lilacs are known for their fragrant and lovely blossoms, which emerge in the spring. There are several kinds of lilac bushes, out of which a few common varieties are explained in this article.
Lilac is a genus of about 20 to 25 species of flowering plants. The genus lilac is also known as Syringa and the plants of this genus belong to the family of Oleaceae or olive family. Japanese Lilac
The scientific name of Japanese lilac is Syringa reticulata, which is native to the regions of Eastern Asia, Japan, Northern China and Korea. This lilac plant can reach a height of 36 feet and is the largest lilac variety, for which it is considered by many as a lilac tree and not shrub. French Lilac

Early Lilac

The flowers of early lilac are usually white or pale purple in color and they appear in clusters. The leaves of this lilac bush are oval-shaped, and dark green or blue-green in color.

Hungarian Lilac
Hungarian lilac is native to the regions of Eastern and Central Europe including, Hungary, Romania and Ukraine. The scientific name of this lilac shrub is Syringa josikaea. Hungarian lilac plant can grow up to a height of about 2 m to 4 m, and produce strongly fragrant blossoms of dark pink color.
