Type A and Type B personality theory, which proclaims that type A people are those who are very achievement-oriented, impatient, business like, ambitious, competitive, and status conscious, while type B people are patient, easy-going and relaxed, is based on this concept itself. Modern-day psychologists have added two more personality types to these already existing ones, i.e type C and type D personalities. Here are some of the characteristics which are common to people who have a type C personality.
Characteristics
Perfectionists
Type C personality people are perfectionists and tend to take everything seriously. They dress very neatly and work very devotedly. They have a tendency to go deep into details of things and are always striving for accuracy in whatever they do.
Consistent and Dependable
Type C individuals are very consistent and follow all the rules and procedures in both work and life in general. This trait in them makes them very dependable as they do not rush things, and because they always check a thing inside out before proceeding further.
Thoughtful
Type C people are deep thinkers, who like to know each and every detail of how and why certain things work. Type C people are very patient and do not rest unless and until they get at the bottom of things. This personality trait makes them ideal for technical jobs or jobs that involve numbers such as an accountant or an engineer.
Emotionally Repressed
One of the peculiar traits is that these people are unable to express their emotions, feelings or needs to other people. These people are true introverts and you will never find them showing their anger or being over ecstatic about anything. In fact these people often ignore and deny their feelings and maintain a kind of rational, no-nonsense and unemotional outward demeanor all the time.
Unassertive
These people lack assertiveness. When faced with an opposition, they are unable to hold on to what they stand for. They are much more likely to conform to the wishes of other people. They have a tendency to please other people, even if it means that they hurt themselves in the process.
Prone to Illness
Those under this type of personality are said to be likely sufferers of certain cancers, where the risk of this is evidently high. They become easily stressed when presented with challenging situations, and succumb to depression and deep bouts of sadness as a result. While they are known to respect authority and elders, they can be introverts.
Recognizing Type C People
Type C individuals, since they deny their feelings and cannot stand up for themselves, tend to suffer from stress and depression more than any other personality type. Other common health related disorders are rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, multiple sclerosis, lupus and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Clearly, most of these are autoimmune disorders.
Researches show that due to the strong mind-body connection in humans, when an individual with type C personality suppresses his wishes and does things only for others repeatedly, the immune system responds by attacking the self, instead of defending it. He can never say no to others, becomes stressful because of this, and ends up with many illness and diseases.
As you can see, a type C personality person needs to come out of his shell to lead a normal healthy life. For identifying a type C person, personality tests such as Rorschach Ink Blot Test, Myers-Briggs Personality Type Evaluation and 16 Personality Factors or 16 PF, are used. Regular counseling, making small changes in one's temperament, learning to say no and instilling confidence in oneself, can help a type C personality to lead a normal, healthy and happy life. Besides this, people close to type C individuals should take care not to force them to do something unpredictable or ask them about their feelings. Making them work on a number of projects simultaneously or expecting them to work in ever-changing environment are some other things to be avoided. Respecting them, involving them in the work, asking their opinions and training them in social skills are some of the ways to let personalities of type C people shine through.
