Tyla's Tales
Just a small fun story I wrote in English. This story has no purpose. I wonder if you can guess what story, in English, that I got the idea from.
Tyla's Tale
The land of Lilliput had always been boring and gloomy, ever since Tyla could remember. The sounds of distant thunderclaps boom over head as strikes of bright lightening invade the darkness. Perhaps a storm would lighten the mood a bit, she thought sarcastically while brushing the soft curls of her auburn hair. The reflection in the dresser mirror was that of a girl with Bambi eyes and heavy eyelashes betraying her dark eyes with a childish look of innocence. With a heavy sigh she placed the comb on the dresser then rose to find herself staring at a large foot outside her window. Startled and puzzled she called out "Hello" and was replied with a gruff snort. A bit annoyed she wandered over to the door and peaked behind it, expecting to see the stormy sky but instead was greeted by the sight of a rather large man. Biting her tongue she fought back a number of profanities and jarred open the door completely.
"Hey, you! Would you mind?" Tyla shouted up at the giant with her hands placed on her hips and a scowl wrinkling her forehead. It doesn't matter how big he thinks he is I can still take him, with that thought in mind her hands ball up into fists. The giant kneel down so that they could at least look each other in the eye and laughed. Annoyed she pointed a finger at him. "Are you mocking me sir?"
Instead of responding he did the worse thing imaginable, he picked her up. Throwing blind punches in the air she fought while he pinched her shirt and put her onto his hand. Glaring she let him have the curses she had been holding back, thanking God that her momma wasn't here. At last he held up his finger to silence her, though it was too little avail, and then smiled and pointed to himself.
"I am Gulliver. Forgive me young Lilliputian." His eyes filled with sympathy but she couldn't decipher if it was sincere.
"Whatever." Still begrudge that he had been so rude she crossed her arms over her chest and stared off into the distant village, her horrid home. All of a sudden a large light caught her eye. It flickered and swayed in the wind and looking closer she realized the light was a giant arrow aflame. In horror she also saw that it was pointed directly at them, but why? Without the time to contemplate she began to call out to the giant yet was cut short when his hand cupped her, shielding her, and then took off running. Tyla desperately wished she had stayed in the solidity of her home as she was thrown around in his hand from the roughness of his retreating. It had felt like hours before they stopped and when he finally opened up his hand she saw that the sunrise had painted the sky above them.
"Gulliver?" She questioned staring up at his expressionless face. So many questions roamed through her mind, it was hard to decide which one was more important.
The man rubbed her head with the tip of his index finger and gave her a sad smile. "We are in Brobdingnag but we are safe, I think." A loud rumble filled her ears and caused her knees to shake, it was a voice. The voice was so loud it hurt her eardrums and left a pounding ache in her head. It was told that in Brobdingnag there were giants, larger than Gulliver, but until this moment she had doubted such rumors.
Gulliver spoke with a man who was more than tripled his size as she cuddled into his thumb, scared to death. With a sigh Gulliver bent down and whispered "They know nothing of you but they promised not to kill me, yet. We are to follow the royal treasurer back to the palace." What if they found out about her? The terrible knowledge that she may die left unease in the bottom of her stomach. Scared she might throw up she pressed her hands against her stomach and willed it not to get sick. All of a sudden a large insect swooped down from above and landed in front of them. Tyla clung onto Gulliver's thumb as she gasps at the size of the beast. It was even larger than Gulliver. With a grunt Gulliver pulled her close to his chest and walked closer to the treasurer who waved the fly away. After the scary bug flew away they began to walk onto a beaten path, one that led to a gigantic castle. At that time a large person with a crown haloing his head came out behind a large palace door. His eyes reminded Tyla of sapphires yet there was something wrong with them, as if the beauty covered up something that she couldn't place her finger on, something ignorant.
"My good sir come on in, we have heard word of your predicament and would be very please to bestow you with our help." With a crooked smile and a wave of his hand he indicated to a rather plumped woman whose wiry hair reminded Tyla of straw. "I am King Naimi and this is my adorable wife, Queen Futterwacking." Tyla hoped that the woman's flat chest and beard did not imply that she wasn't a she.
Gulliver, with grace, ignored the rather curious condition of the queen and introduced himself then was taken into the castle with warm words. Later on they accompanied the royal folk in a large feast. Before they were able to enjoy the food, however, Queen Futterwacking escorted Gulliver away from the crowd. Inwardly Tyla moaned along with her stomach's impatient growl.
"Gulliver, my dear, dear, Gulliver." Her voice reminded Tyla of a dying calf she had fall into a lake one winter back in Lilliput. "To say I lived before you arrived would indeed be a lie. Please take my hand and sweep me away from my husband's bondage and forever we shall live as one instead of broken halves." Queen Futterwacking batted her eyelashes and puckered her lips, causing Tyla to gag dramatically.
Gulliver stood stunned and since he was so small compared to the Queen he knew he couldn't possibly run and hope to get away. "I-.." A loud interruption tore through the air as an arrow shot and just past Gulliver's midsection.
"You dare steal my wife oh good sir?" Tyla snorted at the word wife and glanced back at Queen Futterwacking doubting that was a correct word for such a person. "I'll teach you a thing or two." The king's vein in his forehead bulged as he shot another humongous arrow towards Gulliver, missing again. Gulliver reared back but was stopped by the balcony's railing on which the Queen had placed him on. Instead of trying to run he gripped onto Tyla then jumped. Plunging down into the night, he stared death in the eye and dared the Reaper to smite him. Would they make it...?
