Two Lives, One Friendship, No Regrets - xiv.

Two friends. Unknowingly their worlds join forces in the background to bring them back together. This one is kinda short. Bare with me.
New years eve and day went off without a hitch. Georgia managed not to get a hangover. This was a good thing, considering she had to drive herself home the next day. She was determined to get herself settled and ready for work the next day. Ara didn't drink much either, most likely because she was weary of Charles being in the same room.

The two had stuck together throughout the night talking about this and that. Everything other than Phoenix. She couldn't get herself to bring up the subject. That evening was a night to celebrate a new path, new adventure, and a new year. But why did she feel so empty knowing the person she wanted to see was nowhere in sight.

Getting out of bed, she began what would be her routine for her new job. She dressed smartly for the office, made sure everything was turned off before shutting the door and drove off to her workplace. It was about a 20 minute drive to work which wasn't so bad, considering she had to commute for an hour back at her old job. She was shaking hands with the clock and got to the office by 8:30. Kelly was already there to greet her "Good Morning" and they chit-chatted over coffee relating what they did to celebrate the new year. Of course, Kelly conveniently forgot to mention meeting a supposed friend of Georgia's.

After being set up with corporate e-mail and settled in her new desk, Kelly led her to Ranger's office to make the necessary introductions.
"It's nice to meet you Georgia. I heard you're learning the ropes around here pretty quick," Ranger said.
"Kel's a pretty great trainer," Georgia replied.
"Don't let me keep you guys from anymore training," Ranger offered and genuinely smiled at his new employee after giving his wife a loving look.
Aww, Georgia thought before a wave of envy flashed across her mind.
What am I thinking?! She scolded herself.
Someone cleared their throat, she wasn't sure which of the happily expecting couple did it but Ranger spoke.
"If you don't mind Georgia, I'd like you to come with us for lunch. We have to introduce you to our newest partner in this company."
Georgia nodded, "Thank you, I will. Where will we go?"
"Just meet us in the foyer at noon and you can get a ride with us to the restaurant."
"Don't worry Georgie, I'll come get you," Kel offered.
"Thanks, Kel."
"Ok ladies, back to work we all go."

The ladies filed out of Ranger's office as he prepared to make a phone call to a very anxious Phoenix.
Things were going according to plan so far. Georgia seemed like she was good for his friend.
I just hope she doesn't quit on me for conniving like this, he thought.

Meanwhile, back at Georgia's desk she thought about how accommodating her new bosses had been to her adjustment to work. Now they were taking her to lunch to meet a new employee too? So nice, was all she could think of.
