Two Lives, One Friendship, No Regrets - xii. (Cont'd)
Two friends. Planning to be more.
She didn't call back. She didn't text back. She probably didn't have internet hooked up so she wouldn't be able to e-mail back. He'd have to wait patiently, he told himself. But patient he was not. At least... not right now.
"So what you suggest we do?" Ara asked him. She wondered if he regretted not telling Georgia how he felt. Phoenix told her all the things that lead to his realization about his feelings for Georgia.
"I don't know," he said shaking his head.
The evening of his design unveiling had gone without a hitch (well, aside from Georgia making a one minute appearance). He took Frenchie because in all honesty he owed her that much. He had apologized for the times he was being a jerk. After insisting that she was not playing a replacement and that he wanted her there too, she agreed to come to the launch.
During that evening, Frenchie had been her usual impertinent self and asked questions and made statements that were so off-hand yet true about the way Phoenix felt for Georgia that it got him thinking. They had devised an idea where he could probably land a job at one of those up and coming firms in Marsdale too.
"What do you think?" he asked Ara as they sat in the kitchen and he related the plan.
Ara smiled brightly, "You'd do that? Really?"
"It's change. The New Year is around the corner. If I don't find something now, then I'll just come back here. No harm. No foul. And more importantly -- no regrets."
Ara admired her brother more for this. He was willing to try to make something even though he didn't now how Georgia felt. But she knew how Georgia felt and she was almost certain things would work out just fine for the two.
Damn, she thought to herself. It's taken these two too long to realize how they feel.
"What'd you say Ara?"
"Huh?" she snapped out of that thought. Uh oh.
"You just said 'damn'," he said puzzled.
She chuckled, "It was nothing. Don't mind me."
"So you think I'm good for this?"
She hugged her big brother reassuringly, "Of course. You basically said yourself you have nothing to lose."
"I should get packed and get my portfolio updated. I hope someone out there will take me for my portfolio and now the lack of years. I haven't been through interviews in a while."
"You'll do great. You have someone to inspire you," she winked.
"So you're good with this whole Georgia idea?" he asked uncertain.
"OMG, how many times must we go through this? Yes, I am. Besides, I want her around you again for next Christmas when you buy my gift."
He chuckled as he remembered how hard Ara laughed when he recounted the story about how Georgia got him to buy the iTouch instead of an iPod or speakers to replace her busted ones.
"We'll see how this goes. Can you do me a favor, Ara?"
"Sure."
"Can you check out rentals for me?"
"OK. I'll print out articles too for your portfolio."
"Thanks."
"Get packing already."
"Btw, I'm going to look up what new Architectural firms are out there in that city. That way we can see if they're still hiring and what positions."
"Great idea, Ara."
"Get packing!!" She burst with excitement.
"I will."
He turned on his speaker system and played his favorite oldies. Once he got into the rhythm of John, Paul, George and Ringo, only then was he able to focus and begin to throw clothes into suitcases.
Singing along, he found The Beatles egging him on with, "She loves you, yea yea yea." Because the lyrics were so perfect (even though he wasn't sure if it was true on Georgia's side), he put the song on repeat. Nothing like this kind of song to inspire him to act quickly.
