Two Lives, One Friendship, No Regrets - x. (cont'd)
Two Friends. A step to moving forward. It's for the best, isn't it?
Georgia got to the office fairly early. No one would be in, she was certain. She had a whole list full of duties that needed tending to before she went on permanent leave from her current job.
She hadn't told a soul about her decision to move and change jobs. It wasn't exactly a last minute thing. She had been contemplating change for quite some time, and what better time than the beginning of the year? She had handed in her resignation last month, but decided the last day would be before the Christmas holidays (which was only two days away).
She had already talked to her new employer about starting the first week of January. Yes - she already had a follow-up job in a different city quite a few hours away from her current job, home and life. She would be working as an Executive Assistant to the Chief Architect (aka, the CEO of this new drafting company). He had considered her versatility and experience in the administrative field that he was willing to take her up as a replacement for his current secretary (aka his wife).
Georgia's heart was torn between staying static or moving forward.
If these few weeks weren't a testament to how much change she needed to nurture her life, she didn't know what was. Sure, her life didn't revolve around Phoenix life, as much as it seems like it does, but he was a big part of her - she knew it and wouldn't begin to deny it. That in itself was a reason for her to find a way to move forward. To detach herself and learn what it was to be her again.
She had spoken to her parents about the move and they agreed that it would be a great way for her to grow more if she were to begin again somewhere new. They had been chiding her about how dead-end of a job her current one is and she found they were behind her every step of the way with this change of direction.
All these years she found it hard to please her parents. Nothing she did ever felt like it was enough, therefore she rebelled and at one point stopped trying to please them. Nothing she did was ever good enough.
Now, however it dawned on her that it wasn't that her parents didn't think she was never good enough, but that nothing was good enough for her. They wanted her to reach high and not sell herself short. If only she knew then what she knew now, things might be a whole lot different.
And so, she made a promise to herself to tell Phoenix as soon as possible before she broke it to the rest of her friends and family.
She called up the half-asleep Phoenix to tell him to meet her at her office later in the day. During her break she went down to the market to buy some things to pack up a picnic and went back to work.
The butterflies in her stomach wouldn't settle down. Thank goodness, she finally found a way to ignore them and make a dent in her long list of 'things to do'.
