Two Lives, One Friendship, No Regrets - ii
They are two friends. Nothing more, really.
Drip. Splat. Drip. Splat. Drip.
"What the heck?!" Phoenix jerked up out of bed.
He dragged a hand across his wet face and squinted his eyes to see where all this water was coming from. He could hear the water running in the upstairs bath; must be his sister taking a shower. The ceiling above his bed was puffed up like a water balloon waiting to burst.
Drain it.
He could hear his father telling him to always drain the water from the bubble. It doesn't matter how big a mess you make, there's always plaster and paint to cover it up.
Moving his bed out of the way (it wasn't that heavy or big to begin with), he rushed towards the washroom to grab a couple bath floor towels and his empty garbage bin and put it right beneath the hole. Stepping up on his bed, he pulled out his pocket knife and twisted and turned. It streamed some cloudy colored water for about 30 seconds and then the drips ceased.
Breathing a sigh of momentary relief he grabbed his soaked bed sheets and threw them in a pile in the hallway.
I need breakfast, stat! He thought, the cleaning can wait.
