Two Lives, One Friendship, No Regrets - ii (cont'd)
They are two friends. Nothing more, really.
The lights were still off on her side of the office. It was a deed the company did to take part in the Think Green campaign their building was taking part in.
She actually liked being at work at six am before the rest of her department came around. Granted, she was doing overtime - she was due in the office until 730 but she had a lot of backlogged scanning to do. Besides, she couldn’t get much sleep after last night’s nap.
The train ride in was so quiet there weren’t many people about. She contemplated changing her shift permanently to 6am. But when she gave it another minute of thought she didn’t think she was that dedicated to her job. Nuh-uh.
Sitting back at her desk organizing the files and piles of papers that covered every surface of her desk; she began to wish she were good at putting distances between herself and the boy she’d been out with yesternight.
Boy, indeed. They’d been together in the same classes since grade six but hadn’t really been friends until their second year in highschool. Eleven years old and her parents allowed him to come over or go out to the mall. (Mind you, the neighborhood was much safer back then).
He had been in a few relationships but never failed to remember her.
Presently, it had been at least a month and a half since they last saw each other. They were now reaching thirty years old and were supposed to be past the point of adjusting to adulthood. ‘Supposed’ being the key word.
It seemed that life was just beginning, she thought. She was still struggling to put her feet forward. It had been a rough year and trials it seemed, wouldn’t be ending there.
Tests. How many more life tests would she have to endure before life would flow as smoothly as she always wished?
