Twitter Tools

Unless you've been living deep in the jungles of the Amazon for the past year or so, you've heard of Twitter. Maybe you've never tried it, you're new to it, or you're an "old dog looking for new tricks". Regardless of the reason, you're interested in finding some tools to enhance or begin your Twitter experience.
Before getting into some ideas on searching for Twitter Tools, let's quickly review why Twitter has literally taken the world by storm.

Why Twitter

It's quick. It's immediate. Its capacity for contact is immense. When you boil it down Twitter is simply a highly efficient SMS (Short Messaging Service). The 140 character limit at first glance seems ridiculous. What can you say in 140 characters? But perhaps more than anywhere else, this is where Twitter shows its power: your communication is lightning fast. And once you set up contacts in your Twitter account, your message - the now famous Tweet - goes to all of them instantly. No more waiting for someone to open an email or visit a blog site.

Your message is right there, right now. And if one of your followers retweets your brilliant thought - forwards your message to their followers - the number of people with whom you come in contact can grow exponentially. Retweet, followed by retweet can lead to literally tens of thousands of people reading whatever you had to say in your original tweet. But there are two sides to this coin: managing Twitter followers can be an arduous task. This is the disadvantage that sends most people off on a search for Twitter Tools.

Searching for Twitter Tools

Surfing the net seems an obvious place to begin looking for Twitter Tools. Try entering "Top Twitter Tools" or "Finding Twitter Tools" into your favorite Search Engine. You'll get a mixed bag of results, with Top Ten and Top 100 and Top 40 lists as well as a variety of sites to help you with commercial uses of Twitter, if you're interested in monetizing Twitter. Digging through this hit list will begin to give you an idea of what's out there in the way of third party apps to enrich your Twitter experience.

You can even find an RSS feed for new Twitter tools. You'll find links to sites like Tweetcloud, Tweetdeck, Twinfluence, Twithire, and Twellow. Each of these can add different "bells and whistles" to your Twitter world. Certainly you'll learn a lot this way but it can be time-consuming and it may be difficult to find that tool that is just right for you.

So why not use Twitter itself to find what you're looking for? Why not just Tweet it? In response to the "What are you doing right now?" query, tweet "looking for a tool to accomplish... If you don't have a specific need, try tweeting "looking for new and fun Twitter tools".

If you've found a tool you think you might like, tweet for experiences others have had using the tool. With Twitter's large number of contacts, you're sure to come up with tools you'll find useful. Enjoy the Wonderful World of Twitter!
