Twisted Love
Comment and I will continue.
I wonder if this is where I die. In this dank, dark, moist cave, underground far away from civilization. I mean of all the places they could've put me and they chose here. I kicked at the rock wall but only accomplished in stubbing my toe.
I cursed silently and sat down again to remember the events leading up to this. I wonder what would've happened if I listened to mother this morning.
"Don't stray into that forest Akira. No one that goes in, comes out."
Being me, I naturally ignored her warning. Especially since no one but us lived around these parts, she was mother of course and warned me against everything. I mean this is the women that warned me that I shouldn't play with butterflies. Seriously, butterflies are harmless but apparently not to mother. Anyway, back to what I was saying. I remember when death used to seem like something I wouldn't have to deal with until I was eighty. Now, I seriously wished I would've listened to mother.
"Mother! I'm going out for a while. Don't wait up!" I picked up my plain white cotton dress and slipped on my skin sandals. The crisp spring breeze filtered into the room inviting me to come out and enjoy the beautiful weather. I wrapped my plain brown leather satchel around my waist and burst through the back door.
The sun immediately blinded me and I raised a hand in front of my eyes. Ever since father grew sick, the windows were shaded with black sheets. A twinge of guilt twisted in my gut. Why do I get to enjoy this wonderful day while father lies in bed? I looked up to the sky, my eyes now adjusted to the outside. I smiled as I took in my surroundings.
The sky was clear of clouds and the sun illuminated the beauty of the fields. To the left, the fields of flowers reached out farther than the eye could see and to the right, lay the forest. The deep dark forbidden to go in forest. My smile deflated as I stared into the forest. Why can't I go into the stupid forest? Oh yes, because mother says it's dangerous.
"You don't know what kind of animals are in that forest Akira! Stay away from it!" Yet again. Ever since father became ill she thought everything was dangerous.
I crossed my arms over my chest. I was seventeen years of age. Old enough to make my own decisions. Who is mother to tell me what I can and can't do anymore? I started to walk away from the yard and I could feel my pulse start to pick up. I was actually doing it! Take that mother!
The trees seemed to be leaning in forward toward the trail that led into the forest. The shrubs looked new and fascinating and I couldn't help but run my hands over the rough exterior of the bark. Silly how things like this interested me. I mean really? Bark on a tree to anyone else would be boring. extremely dull and boring. Movement inside the trees caught my attention and I automatically went chasing after it.
Whatever it was. My steps echoed throughout the near silent forest. I could feel perspiration start trail down my neck and down my back. My feet throbbed from running on the uneven ground and finally I stopped running for enough time to realize I ran off the path. Okay, I'll just have to backtrack is all. I went to turn around but a glimmer or something sparkly caught my attention. I immediately sprinted in the direction of the sparkly something and growled in frustration as it kept slipping around and through the quickly thickening trees.
What the heck. I went stumbling then crashing onto the moist forest floor. My side ached and I heaved myself onto my butt. Rubbing my side I sucked in a breath. Well, that definitely hurt. I looked around for the object that tripped me and spied a very suspicious looking vine jutting up from the dirt floor. So you are the one that caused this hmm? I grimaced as I began to stand up. My dirty blonde hair had twigs in them. I was sure and I knew my slightly tanned skin would have dirt marks on them. I sighed as I did my best to brush off white dress. Mother will skin me alive when she sees my dress... My thoughts stopped suddenly when I noticed that I wasn't alone.
The birthmark on my hip started to burn and I gasped in pain. What the heck? The trees rustled and gold and red leaves fell to the floor in a whirlwind around my head. I looked up and suddenly noticed that I could hardly see the sky. In fact little light filtered through the canopy. My heart fluttered like a bird caught in a cage.
I don't know how, but I knew something was behind me. I spun on the balls of my feet and started into a sprint. When I came face to face with the most beautiful creature I'd ever laid my eyes on. A man with long silver hair and green eyes smiled down at me with pearly white teeth. His skin was so pale, it was almost translucent. He wore all silver clothes embroidered with white trimmings of butterflies and other wonderfully beautiful creatures. "Well, what do we have here?"
