Twilight to Re-launch as Graphic Novel
Stephanie Meyer is collaborating with artist Young Kim to create a comic book version of Twilight.
As legions of fans await the premiere of the next Twilight movie in the series, they may now be able to focus their attention on the development of a graphic novel that will further enhance the popular franchise. With Stephanie Meyer as a direct contributor to the project, it's likely that much of the original charm and energy of Twilight will translate into the comic book format.
In the graphic novel genre, authors and illustrators have the luxury of breaking outside of conventional norms with their story-telling and it could be a great opportunity for Meyer to further develop her characters beyond what's been done with the books and the movies. New characters and new scenarios may also emerge, as well as prequel and sequel plot lines that will likely be impossible to pace in book and movie format.
A single black and white image from the upcoming comic debuted on EW and the characters are obviously somewhat different than the Bella and Edward that fans have come to embrace on the screen. The artist's rendering of the characters isn't a sharp departure from Kristin Stewart and Robert Pattinson, but there are subtle differences that should be enough to pique fans' interest.
The next movie in the saga, New Moon, is set for release in November 2009 and is likely to threaten many box office records for its opening and overall take at the theater.
