Tuscan Decorating Style For Kitchens And Bathrooms

Here are some tips on how you can get the appealing Tuscan decorating style in your kitchen or bathroom.
Using Tuscan decorating in the home is a great way to get a warm and pleasing style that will make your house more inviting and two rooms that look fabulous in this style are the kitchen and bathroom. Here are a few key points to getting the look of Tuscany in your kitchen or bathroom.

The first thing you need to think about in Tuscan style decorating is the colors that you use. This is a very earthy and warm style so you want to use earth tones. One popular color is a golden hue which is reminiscent of the Tuscan sun. You can also choose browns, and terra cottas for the walls and floors. If you really want great old world style, consider doing some faux painting on the walls to make it look like aged plaster.

Once you have chosen your major color - be it tan, gold or cocoa brown, you want to pick some accent colors to liven the decor up. For this, you need only to look at a nice piece of Italian pottery and take some of the colors from there - olive, brick red, and deep blue can all be great choices. These are the colors you will try to have in your accessories.

One huge element in Tuscan decorating is the use of stone which is why kitchens and bathrooms lend themselves so nicely to this style. You can use stone on the floors , shower walls and counter and vanity tops. One popular stone that goes well with the Tuscan look is travertine - this is a beautiful tile that can be found in many shades in most home improvement stores.

Other choices might include granite, limestone and marble. Granite is great for counter and vanity tops but not so practical for floors. Marble will give you an elegant old world look but it is rather soft and very porous so probably wouldn’t work well as a kitchen counter. Limestone is also porous and does stain easily but can be used effectively in showers.

When choosing furniture and accessories for your Tuscan home, you want to go with either an organic or aged wood or wrought iron. In the kitchen a wrought iron table with matching chairs can add a chic café look to your Tuscan décor. If you want more of a country feel, go for an old painted pine table and chairs or rustic wormwood. Accessories should have a country - Italian look such as old pottery jugs, hanging strings of garlic and peppers and lots of herbs in oil in the kitchen. In the bathroom you’ll want to include towels rolled up in "spa" style in a wrought iron basket along with organic style soaps.

A Tuscan decorating project in the kitchen or bathroom can be a fun way to get a great look in your home. As with all decorating projects, make sure you set your budget ahead of time and plan accordingly for stress free decorating!
