Turkey Stuffing Recipes
Aromas of home, warm honey, cinnamon and meat. cider, hot chocolate and wine…all things associated with the holiday season. As soon as the holidays approach, people think of home cooked food. Apple pies, sweet potatoes and turkey stuffing. Yes, the holidays bring about the craving for turkey stuffing.

Here are some recipes for turkey stuffing recipes:

Traditional Mom’s Stuffing recipe
This is a traditional styles, typical mom turkey stuffing.
Ingredients:
  • 1 loaf of a day old French bread which has been cut into small cubes to fill about 10 to 12 cups.
  • A cupful of walnuts.
  • 2 cups of onions and 2 cups of celery.
  • 6 tablespoons of butter.
  • 1 green apple that has been peeled, cored and chopped.
  • Raisins or currants, 3/4th cup.
  • 10 green martini olives.
  • Turkey giblet stock.
  • Fresh parsley chopped to fill a quarter of a cup.
  • 1 teaspoon of ground sage or poultry seasoning.
  • Salt and ground pepper as per taste.
Preparation:
  • To make the stock, take the heart and gizzard (turkey giblet) and neck and put them in a pan filled with water and salt. Let this simmer for 50 to 60 minutes and remember to leave the pan uncovered. Once the stock is cooked, strain it into a container for later use in the stuffing.
  • Take the cupful of walnuts and toast them using a frying pan on high heat for a few minutes. Stir them till they are nicely browned, be careful not to let them burn. Allow them to cool and then crush them.
  • Take a pan and put it on medium heat. Take 3 tablespoons of butter and melt it in a pan, to this melted butter add the bread cubes and stir so that the bread is completely covered with butter. After this let the bread cubes toast and become brown.
  • Take another pan and sauté the chopped onions and celery in 3 tablespoons of butter for about 10 minutes. Next add in the bread and chopped walnut. After this add the chopped green apple, currants, olives, parsley and raisins. Then add a cup of turkey giblet stock to this mixture, this is needed to make the stuffing moist. To this add the sage, poultry seasoning, salt and pepper.
  • Now turn the heat to a low setting, cover the pan and let it cook for an hour till the apples are completely cooked. Keep checking every ten minutes to add more stock for moistness and to avoid sticking burning.
  • Your stuffing is now ready and is sufficient for 8 people.
Bread Stuffing
This is another very traditional stuffing that has been used for ages. It is simple to understand and to cook.
Ingredients:
  • Bread Cubes, 10 cups.
  • ½ cup of butter.
  • 1 cup chopped onion.
  • ½ cup of chopped celery leaves.
  • 1 teaspoon salt.
  • ½ teaspoon pepper.
  • Poultry seasoning or a mixture of sage, savory, thyme and marjoram, 2 teaspoons.
  • Chicken stock.
Preparation:
  • Melt the butter in a pan.
  • Add onions and celery in the butter and sauté till golden and soft.
  • To this mixture add the breadcrumbs and seasonings.
  • If you want your stuffing to be nice and moist, keep adding chicken or turkey giblet stock or broth.
  • Your stuffing is now ready, all you have to do is stuff the turkey and roast it. This amounts of stuffing is sufficient for a 10 pound turkey.
Basic Stuffing
If you are not the sort who has too much time on hands, a good basic stuffing is what you need. Here is a recipe for a quick and easy stuffing.
Ingredients:
  • ½ cup of butter.
  • 1 medium sized onion chopped.
  • 2 celery stalks chopped.
  • 6 garlic cloves well minced.
  • 2 teaspoons salt.
  • 1 teaspoon thyme.
  • 1 teaspoon rosemary.
  • 1 teaspoon sage.
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper.
  • ½ teaspoon savory.
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley.
  • 1 tablespoon poultry seasoning.
  • 8 cups of stale broken up bread.
  • 3 cups of poultry stock.
Preparation:
  • Take a large skillet and melt the butter in it. To this melted butter add all the ingredients except the bread and stock.
  • Cook on medium heat keeping the pan covered till the onions are well cooked and soft.
  • Remove the cooked mixture and add it to a mixing bowl, then add the bread and stock.
  • Your stuffing is now ready, stuff it into a turkey sufficient for 8 people.
These are some of the most traditional and basic stuffing’s that can be enjoyed by the whole family.
