True Ghost Stories from a Haunted Family

From the time storytelling began, ghost stories and paranormal legends have been among the most popular topics. Whether or not we believe, there's just something about a good ghost story that grabs our attention.
"Do you believe in ghosts?" I think each of us have been asked that question at least once in our lives. Even if you don’t believe, do you remember telling ghosts stories with your friends when you were young? All of those urban legends each generation repeated over and over again so we could scare the wits out of each other? The truth is, I think most people have an interest in ghosts and the possibility of their existence. The popularity of paranormal television certainly suggests that people are at least more open-minded about the subject and that it's really okay to admit you believe in ghosts.

My family began experiencing paranormal events in the 1960's. It all began with the death of a close family friend. On the night he passed away, right around the time of his death, our front door which was locked, blew open and a gust of wind swept through the house. My oldest sister screamed because she thought someone was trying to break into our house, which brought my father running into the room. There was no one there and no explanation as to why the door blew open.

On the day our family friend was buried, we came home to find one of our bird cages on the floor. You may be thinking, "What's so odd about that?" Well, whenever our friend would visit out house, he would often bump that particular cage and say, "One of these days I'm going to knock that damn thing right on the floor!" We came home to find the cage on the floor, however, the bracket used to hang the bird cage was still secure in the wall and the ring on top of the cage to hang it on the bracket was firmly in place. It was as if someone lifted the cage off the bracket and placed in on the floor.

After the death of our friend we began experiencing more and more unexplained events. We would often hear someone walking up and down the stairs and when we looked to see who it was, there was never anyone there. Family members started seeing a blue ball of light floating throughout the house. On two separate occasions, once at night and once during the day, my two youngest sisters saw a man sitting at our kitchen table when no one was actually there.

Since these events began, I have often wondered why some people have paranormal experiences many times during the course of their lives while others will go a lifetime without ever experiencing anything close to the paranormal. Why are people who experience these events so attuned to the paranormal plane. What is is about my family that has made us "ghost magnets" for so many years. Who are these ghosts that have been with us for so long? Many questions go unanswered but one fact remains, they have been with us for over forty years and it appears they intend to stay with us for some time to come.

About nine years ago I began documenting our paranormal experiences. I had originally planned to write a book, but the events continue to occur to this day and I would no sooner finish a book only to have more content to add. Rather than writing several books, I decided a website would be easier to update so I created Haunted Family to share our family stories. I've also created a special page for people to share their paranormal experiences as well. The website is a continual work in progress as more stories will be added over time.

It's rather odd but after all these years, the subject of the paranormal has become "the norm" when it comes to my family!
