Triple Chocolate Cake Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 eggs
- ¾ cup plain unsalted butter
- 2 cups self-raising flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 ½ cups sugar
- ¾ cup sour milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
- 1 cup chocolate frosting
- 2 cups cocoa powder
- 1 cup buttermilk
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Lightly grease two 9 inch round cake tins and preheat the oven to 350º C. With the help of an electric mixer beat the sugar and the plain unsalted butter until it is light and fluffy. Beat in one egg at a time into this mixture and whisk until it is thoroughly combined. In another bowl, mix together all the dry ingredients like the self-raising flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt. Add these dry ingredients into the butter and sugar mixture and fold it in. Now add the buttermilk and the sour cream and mix well. Pour the batter into the two greased cake tins and bake it in the oven for 35 to 40 minutes.
Prepare the chocolate frosting by whisking in ½ cup of butter with 2 cups of powdered sugar, ½ cup milk and ¾ cup of cocoa powder. Add in a tablespoon of vanilla essence and beat until the mixture is smooth and free of lumps.
When the cakes are done, take it out of the oven and allow it to cool down completely. Cut each cake horizontally with a sharp knife or a wire string into half. Pour the chocolate frosting and spread it on the bottom layer evenly with a knife. Place another layer of cake and repeat the same process two more times. Top with the remaining cake layer and spread the rest of the frosting over the cake. Garnish with cherries and sliced strawberries.

- 1 packet cake mix
- 4 eggs
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 cup chocolate frosting
- ¾ cup canola oil
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 cup sour cream
- ½ cup dark chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
In a large bowl, mix together cake mix, sugar, canola oil, cocoa powder, sour cream and eggs. Whisk it with an electric beater until the mixture is smooth and lump free. Fold in the chocolate chip cookies and then pour the batter into a greased cake tin and bake at a moderately hot oven for 40 to 45 minutes. Insert a toothpick into the cake to check if the cake is done. If the toothpick comes out clean, then your cake is ready. Remove cake from the oven and place it on the wire rack to cool completely.
In another bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of milk to the frosting to get a thin consistency. Pour the frosting over the cake and refrigerate for an hour. Serve the cake with a generous sprinkling of chocolate flakes.
