Trim a Small Christmas Tree with just about Anything
Decorating a tabletop Christmas tree doesn't require a lot of time or money, but it will add endless Christmas charm throughout your home.
You can place a small tree on the kitchen counter, on a table in the foyer, use one as a centerpiece for a buffet, or even put one in the bedroom on a dresser or nightstand. The possibilities are endless, and will allow you to display your true Christmas personality.
Of course you can decorate your tabletop tree with modern-day ornaments and lights, but devising new and unusual ways to trim a small Christmas tree with odds and ends can be a lot of fun for the entire family.
You can decorate with items you’ve gathered from around the house, or inexpensive items you’ve picked up throughout the year at garage sales and thrift shops.
Small objects from kitchen drawers or the toy box can make delightful trimmings for a tabletop Christmas tree.
Cookie cutters, cake-candle holders or assorted measuring spoons all add sparkle to a kitchen tree.
Small plastic toy favors and holiday candies in bright colored wrappers are perfect "ornaments" for a tree on the children’s party table. Or consider embellishing the tree with a plastic toy tea set or a tiny train set for a tree to be placed in a child’s room.
Dig out that box of trinkets that have outlived their usefulness. Broken strings of beads, odd earrings and buttons can out-glitter traditional tinsel when hung in abundance on a small tree.
Leftover metallic wrapping paper can be made into a sparkling assortment of pinwheels, folded fans or simple crimped strips. Hang them on the tree amidst snowflake designs cut from small white paper doilies.
Consider using ticket stubs and small souvenirs from events that your family has attended through the year and watch the reminiscing begin.
Perhaps you’ve always loved the retro Christmas look, but didn’t want to give up your contemporary holiday decor. Fortunately there are still many small, affordable ornaments and decorations available from the 50’s and 60’s to choose from. For a truly unique look, you might decorate the tree with vintage Christmas corsages and holiday hankies tied into bows.
As you can see, decorating a two or three foot tree doesn’t require much time or money, but it will add endless Christmas spirit all through your home.
