In Los Angeles, California, there is a very famous area known as Hollywood. This single place offers some of the most brilliant, and infamous, actors, artists, and celebrities a chance to show their stuff on stage, film, and more. Due to it's cultural identity and fame as the major center of movies and movie stars, the word "Hollywood" itself is usually used to identify the cinema of the U.S. Although some of the industry has moved into surrounding areas of Hollywood, there are still significant auxiliaries that remain in the area.

There are many historical theaters here that are still used as venues and stages for premier theatrical releases and hosting major awards shows, such as the Academy Awards. It is also home to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where stars get their names placed on their very own spot on the walkway. In early 1910, director D.W. Griffith was sent by the Biograph Company to the west coast with his troupe. The filmed on a vacant lot in downtown L.A. The company then decided to explore new territories and headed five miles north to the little village of Hollywood. They enjoyed filming here so much that they shot and produced the first film created in Hollywood called "In Old California". After the movie crew returned to New York, many others heard about the great filming experience in Hollywood, many movie makers began to head to the area in 1913. During World War I, Hollywood became the movie capital of the world.
There are many famous movie and television stations, music, and companies that started in Hollywood, such as CBS, Capitol Records, and the famous Hollywood Professional School. One of the most famous of all the theaters and buildings that has been built in Hollywood is the Kodak Theater, which was opened in 2001, where the historical Hollywood Hotel once stood. This is now the home of the Oscars and many great awards shows, as well as the home of American Idol's finals. There are still many major motion picture studios that are located in Hollywood, although many have located to other areas in the Los Angeles region.
With all of the filming and studios that are still working and producing major films, this is a vacationers paradise, especially if you love celebrities. Everywhere you go in Hollywood, you stand to see celebrities of all types, from major film stars to television stars. There are tours of stars homes, tours of museums that are dedicated to the film industry, and much more.
