Trapped in Venice Chapter 3 Pt. 2

PLEASE READ!! I'm sorry it's so short. This one's from a different POV...enjoy.
I caught the girl, no, woman, I corrected myself, just as she started to fall. Her chest was pressed into mine, and she got her balance. The invader was still behind her, looking her form over, just standing there. He was the reason I was there, of course, but I wondered why he hesitated to attack when she was here. He was chasing her. I pulled the woman back into the dark room behind me, shutting the door in front of the invader.

She looked at me, eyes wide with a stunned expression, obviously in shock. I sighed, defeated. Of course, on the night when I was about to catch the one invader in charge of it all, an ignorant would interfere. Of course, she had nothing to do with it, but she messed with my plans. I sighed, going along with procedure, and though I didn’t want to do it, I drew my blade from the thigh sheath on my right leg, and with a swift motion, hit her with the handle of it. Her eyes rolled back to the back of her head, and I caught her as she fell.

I laid her on the bed in the room, and, pulling my cell from the holder on my belt, I hit speed dial.

"Hello?" my boss answered.

"Hey. I have a 375. I’m here at watch-out area number 7." I said tiredly.

"I’ll be there in twenty." He said, and I hung up. I sighed, looking at the woman on the bed, and to went over to sit on the window seat. I had a view of the door, the window was to my right, and I could watch her. I sat there and waited, letting thoughts flow through my head. They varied from the invader to my children. I smiled a little as I saw Allison and Gregory playing with Phoenix in my mind’s eye. They were at the beach, like they always were…and I was actually with them this time. Tears gathered in my eyes, and I almost jumped when the door pounded open. I looked at my watch, wiping my tears as I did so. Right on time.

"Caleb, what have you done?" he asked me, looking at her sleeping form.

"I did nothing, sir." I said, standing slowly. "I was posted here, as planned. The invader was chasing her."

He sighed, looking from her to me, and back again. "You’ll have to take care of her, I guess." He said, sighing again. "She knows too much, having been to one of our watch-out areas, and seeing an invader."

I gaped at him. The last thing I needed was another hormonal woman in the house. Phoenix was enough. "Sir, I-"

He cut me off sharply, "No. I gave you the order." He was staring a hole in the wall, not even looking at me. "Do it." He turned on his heel, walking back out of the door, leaving me with this…stranger.

My boss’s name was Ryan. He’d been my best friend since we were teenagers, training. He’d jumped up on the ladder, and while I was getting married and having kids, he was dealing with the politics of the business. He’d always been like an older brother to me. And, ever since my wife had died…no, had been murdered, he’d been on me to get a woman in the house…someone with a positive influence for the kids. I guess he finally found a way to get me one of those. But, if I hadn’t been mistaken, I’d seen…tears in his eyes as he’d commanded it.

I apologize for the length; I didn't see it necessary to make this chapter any longer than it already is.
The next chapter will have a picture of Caleb. :)
