Translation for Exporters

Why and how is translation needed for exporting businesses.
Precision and simplicity is very important when it comes to translation. Translating requires a lot of effort and knowledge of the right kind of words, phrases and professionalism. Usually the document that has to be translated is known as the "source" text and the language intended is called the "target" text. To write effectively one must keep in mind the following points:

1. One should have a strong understanding of the structure of text and the grammar
2. One must keep all the words and phrases with their original meaning while translating
3. One must avoid homographs; that is the use of words which have different meanings but are spelled one way
4. One should avoid the use of slang

Writing and translating for export businesses requires complete understanding of the business the what the document(s) is for. Naturally on top of this it is critical to appreciate the smallest and simplest words to the largest and most complicated phrases.

A common mistake many first time exporters make is to use free online translation tools. A big mistake. When exporting abroad you need to make sure your sales literature, product names, branding, labels, etc are all spot on.

Free online tools don’t understand the nuances of language; they work on a mathematical basis and will spew out nonsense a lot of time. If this goes on to a website or a label, it could ruin a company’s chances of exporting again! Exporters should avoid such tools at all costs.

Exporters need to build relationships with good, local translation companies. The companies a lot of the time can take care of the whole process relieving the burden on the exporter. All they need to know is what to translate, who for and when. They then do all the hard work in terms of analyzing texts, making sure the translation works locally and producing a final result that works.

As well as translation many of these companies can also help with things like interpreters, finding researchers in target markets, competition analysis, brand name development and website translation.
