Training Dogs to Stop Jumping up
Stop a dog or puppy from jumping up and down on people or things.
It is so common to see a puppy and as it runs up to you it jumps up on you. It is so much more tolerable due to the fact of how cute the puppy is then when it is a grown dog. The idea to take into factor here is the dogs respect level. Jumping up on humans is due to a respect level the dog has with the human nature.
If you ever notice a puppy does not jump up on another dog that he first meets. The meeting starts with the puppy sort of crouched down and steadily crawls to the big dog. This is because the puppy knows the different mature levels and respects the older dogs space. There are of course different instances to this, but in the most cases it is a relevant guide to follow.
The simplest way to train a puppy to not jump up is this method. First use close friends acting as people the puppy does not know. If you could get a different person up to 5 different times, this can greatly increase your levels of training the puppy effectively.
1. Once the new arrival of the person occurs, have them walk towards the dog like they are showing up to the location as a new arrival.
2. The puppy will be jumping up on the new arrival. Once this happens, wait for the puppy to stop jumping and have a treat ready to give to him once he/she stops jumping up and down.
3. This gives the puppy an equation of itself not jumping up equaling a new treat which he loves.
Repeat this process as many times as needed. It is very simple and very effective. We try to keep it as simple as possible when it comes to teaching at home residents how to train their dogs.
