Training Boxer Puppies

Training boxer puppies doesn’t have to be hard. In fact, if you follow a few simple steps, you and your boxer pup will have a memorable experience that will last a lifetime. Remember that boxer dogs already have a disposition to be loving and loyal. Use that to train your boxer puppy.

Below are ten steps to ensure that you and your puppy have a wonderful training experience.

- Be calm but assertive. Boxer puppies/dogs do not respond to threats, hits, yelling or screaming. Instead, use treats to nudge your puppy to continue his/her training
- Train your pup to not pee everywhere by using the crate method. Keep in mind that they tend to pee where they do not play and sleep.
- Teach your puppy commands such as "sit" and "come". Boxers love learning new things especially as they grow.
- Set rules for your boxer to follow and make sure your household knows them. Rules are still being taught after training sessions are over.
- Stay consistent! By doing this, your pup will learn faster with your commands. Those in the household should be told to use the same commands to keep the pup from being confused.

- Don’t punish but praise your boxer puppy. Praising your puppy encourages him/her to stay with the training. Use treats when necessary.

- Training sessions should be kept short. As the puppy grows, you can extend the time. Stop when it seems he/she is uninterested.

- Always be patient and be assertive. Doing so shows your puppy that your are the boss. They usually respond to this persona.

- Use commands alone. Using full sentences only confuses your puppy.

- Command response should be immediate. If your boxer seems to lack behind, stick with the command until he/she learns it and responds immediately when ordered.
