Tough Love 22
Jess's point of view.
Lost, Lonely and Scared:
I am never going to forgive myself for doing what I had did four hours ago, maybe it was six. It was dark and creepy and I was hungry. I haven’t been eating properly which was probably why I was hungry. I didn’t know what came over me when I hurt Leila and the rest of them. I didn’t, I lost control completely without knowing what I was doing.
Now here I am, lost and all alone at some place I haven’t even seen or been to. What scared me the most was my surroundings. This was what I saw: trees everywhere, a trail that leads to who knows where, rocks everywhere, mosquitoes buzzing in my ears. At least there was a soft breeze here, the smell of the trees, rain. I’ve never, in my life, been alone in a forest - jungle or whatever, before. Plus the sun was going down and I needed the light to see where I was going. I listened out for movements, twigs breaking, leaves rustling, a sign maybe that I was being stalked.
Why did I have to end up here? Why not in a beautiful mansion, or a bed, or the ocean, or maybe in Hawaii, or maybe Niue? I’ve heard stories about that little Island, where savages were born. Though I don’t believe in that story, who knows, anything could exist in this world. I also heard that the clubs were pretty cool, though I was still underage, I just wanted to know what it was like to go out and party.
Probably never if I was ever going to live after being in this forest. If I died here tonight, I just wanted it to be a fast, peaceful death. Maybe a quick jerk to the neck, or a quick tore at my throat. As long as I didn’t know what was happening, then I was fine with it.
"I’m thinking about the ways I could die, great," I mumbled, stumbling over the rocks while following the trail.
"Maybe it would be a slow death? Or a quick one?"
The most important question that I still needed to figure out is how? How did I get all those powers I had earlier? It felt damn good, and evil at the same time. Go figure.
"Where am I? Not lost I hope," I mumbled to myself. It was the only thing that kept me sane. Great.
The trail I was following was going on and on and on like it was never going to end. Not cool, not cool. If I was eaten alive here, now, I would come back here and haunt that creatures ass and kill it while it sleeps, which seems cruel, but it seemed fair to me to be quite honest. Oh well.
To top off all the creepy things that I discovered at this place, a growl came from behind me. I froze and my heart fluttered, then stopped, and started beating again. I was seriously freaking out. I turned around slowly. I was sure I was about 180° degrees when something hard hit me across the stomach - which made me fall over - again - and spit out more blood. Gosh, was this ever going to end? Why am I being tortured? Have I been that cruel? Is this what I deserve?
Pathetic.
Shaking my head, I stood up and stared into the most beautiful eyes I had ever seen - which belonged to a terribly ugly beast.
Lately I’ve come across phasing: which hurt like hell,
Christina: who’s a bitch and a pain in the ass,
Leila’s jealousy: not to mention she’s also a vampire, along with Tyrone, and now a bloody werewolf: a big ugly one with beautiful eyes.
Go figure.
It wasn’t hard to tell it apart from a real wolf. A wolf is slightly smaller than a were-wolf. This one was probably half a meter taller than me. A fiery red colour mixed with brown as its fur. Its paws contained long sharp claws.
It licked its lips and looked me over. In it’s eyes I could see it said "dinner."
Yeah, my day just gets better and better. What else is there in this world that I don’t know about? Besides my kind, and vampires and were-wolfs?
The thing actually howled in front of me. It wasn’t full moon yet, and it wasn’t going to get dark until a few hours. This is some serious crap I was in. Where was help when I needed it?
On the other hand, this could also be some kind of sick joke.
"Look beast, who ever sent you can go kiss their ass cause I aint buying this shit right now," I growled. "I’ve been attacked by a useless human named Christina, attacked by a jealous cow Leila and now you. Who sent you?"
Its head tilted and it smiled. It smiled What the hell?
"Why the hell are you smiling? Aren’t you suppose to be ripping my throat out or something. I have read about your kind you know. Well movies mostly, but I find you guys fascinating and disgusting at the same time."
It stepped closer to me, and I took a step backwards. This thing was toying with me.
"Come near me beast and I will kill you."
Holding up my palm, fire emerged from it, slow and fierce. I knew my eyes were changing, but what color was it now?
From the look on the things face it seemed to be fascinated, so was I.
"Want to see a trick beastie?"
It nodded as if understanding me, which surprised me. Aren’t they suppose to rip my throat out or something?
I help up my palm, and focused on it, using the things face as an image. Slowly it crawled until it was almost the same height as the thing - the beast. It howled and stepped back in fear. I wasn’t sure if that howl was meant to be a laugh, a cry or something vicious. Who knows?
Not me, that’s for sure.
"I - I have been practicing. It took me ages to get it right. As long as I set my mind to it, then I’m fine with it. Where are you from anyway?"
It was getting darker and I wasn’t in the mood for walking. My feet ached, head throbbing, and my damn stomach hurt like hell. So I sat down, didn’t care if the damn thing attacked me or not.
What a life I have.
It seems that where ever I turn, there’s always trouble, and it always seemed to be about me. I shook my palms and looked at the beast. It had the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen. A violet color with golden rims. So pretty. It moved closer to me, one step at a time.
"I wont bite," I joked.
It walked closer, until it was standing right in front of me.
"You’re a were-wolf right?"
It nodded.
"You going to eat me? Cause if you are, make it fast. Please."
Its head tilted to one side. Then it shifted back into a human. A HUMAN!
First it’s head was tilted backwards, then his arms were thrown back, chest heaving. Its toes changed first, then his feet, legs, torso, chest, arms and then its face. It’s face. It was amazing. His long hair clung onto his shoulder, those violet golden rimmed eyes, rosy lips, chiseled cheeks and his nose. I moved lower, his chest, and his stomach - a six pack! I couldn’t look any further though, he was naked. I laughed.
Standing up, I wiped my jeans and put my hand out for him. "I’m Jess."
He shook my hand and smiled. Wow, he had a gorgeous smile. "Anjelo. What are you doing here?"
"I’m not sure. You might think I was crazy if I told you anyway - at least I think I am."
He shook his head and laughed. "You find out that I was a were-wolf and you think you’re crazy?"
"Okay. I don’t know how I got here. I was at school and then I ended up here. Last thing I remember, I just vanished, just like that."
He looked me over. "It’s not a safe place for a girl like you to be out here. You’re lucky I found you before the others did."
I shuddered. "The others?"
He nodded. "I’m the guardian of this place. The others come here to hunt."
"Hu-unt?" I stuttered. "You really should put some clothes on."
He looked down and laughed. He walked over to a tree and pulled out a pair of jeans? What the hell? "Animals. Like bears and stuff."
"Oh," I said, relieved. Both for the news and for him and his jeans. "You guys don’t eat humans right?"
I could focus more now with him wearing clothes.
He laughed and held onto my arm. It tingled there, but I ignored it. "We are shape shifters my dear, not beast."
"Aren’t you guys the same thing?"
I sat down and so did he. "No. We eat normal food like you humans, or what ever you are. Blood makes us sick."
"True. So where you from anyway?"
He spread his arms. "I told you. I’m from here."
I nodded. "Oookay, where about from here."
He pointed to the trail. "This trail leads to my place."
Thank goodness. At least I know someone at this place – at least I think I did.
"Could you help me please?"
"Let me guess. You’re lost and have no idea where you are and you need my help."
"Could I use your phone?"
"Sure. Come on, I’ll take you home. I mean my home."
I laughed. "Sure."
We followed the trail to his house. He kept telling me jokes. He was a sweet guy.
"How old are you anyway?" I asked. He looked like he was around eighteen or nineteen. Who knows.
"Eighteen. Still young, free and single baby," he joked, then winked.
I laughed. "What ever. You remind me of my brother Beau."
He rolled his eyes. "That’s what everybody says. I always remind them of somebody. How old are you?"
"Seventeen. Still young, free and so not single baby," I said.
He laughed and then shook his head, staring at me with wide eyes. "You have a boyfriend?"
I laughed at the look on his face. I wasn’t sure if he was trying to be funny or not. He still looked funny. "Yeah, he’s the same age as me. His names Josh."
He nodded. "Mm, Josh aye? He sounds familiar."
"Well, there are a lot of Josh’s in the world."
"True. I’m curious though, what’s his full name."
"Joshua Halo, why?"
His eyes widened. "You’re kidding?"
"Uh no, I’m not. Why?"
"That son of a bitch," he mumbled. "Nothing. I’ve met him before, that’s all."
I narrowed my eyes. "You’re lying to me."
He looked at me. "No I’m not."
"Yes you are. I could always tell when someone’s lying."
He sighed. "You’re his girl friend right?" I nodded. "Then he’s a two timing twit."
"What?!" I screamed. "Josh wouldn’t do that to me."
"Think again."
"How do you know him anyway?"
He shrugged. "You’re not the only girl that has Josh as their boyfriend."
I looked at him, shocked. "You’re……gay?"
He returned the look on my face and laughed. "No, no. Even though I’m single, doesn’t mean I’m gay."
"True."
I still couldn’t - wouldn’t believe that Josh was cheating on me. No way, that couldn’t happen. Though he has been a bit distant lately. I thought it was because the way I looked, now I wasn’t sure. Well, we’ve only been a couple for at least four days now I think, it couldn’t be that bad.
‘So pretty, yet so distant.’
I looked around. "Did you hear that?"
He looked up confused. "Hear what?"
"You mean you didn’t hear that just then?"
"Uh no. You aren’t going crazy are you?"
I poked my tongue. "Hell no."
He laughed. "I was just kidding. Well, here we are."
I looked up at the place that he pointed to. It was dark but I could still see his house. It was beautiful, better than ours. "Wow."
"Come one. I’ll show you inside."
I followed behind him watching his every move. The way his muscles rippled. So fine.
"Here we are. Phones over there," said Anjelo, pointing to the small object on the wall.
"Thanks."
We were in the kitchen and it was a really cool house. While dialing my house number, I sneaked a peak at Anjelo. He really was a good guy. Too good.
"Hello?"
It was Tye and he sounded tired. It was a relief to hear his voice again. I missed them terribly.
"Tye, am I glad to hear your voice. It’s Jess."
"Jess? Hell girl where have you been? The whole towns out looking for you."
By town, he meant my family. I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, yeah what ever."
"She’s here guys….. Yes she’s fine….. Yeah okay….. Jess where are you?"
I looked at Anjelo. "I’ll take you home. No one is to know where we live."
"Uh Tye. I’ll get someone to drop me off at home okay. Tell mum and dad not to worry."
Silence.
"Tye?"
"Okay. You better be here before eight. Mum and dad are freaking out."
"Sure. See you."
"Jess?"
"Yeah?"
"Look after yourself you hear."
"Okay. Love you."
"Love you."
I hung up and looked at Anjelo. "Thanks for letting me use the phone. Mind if we get going now?"
"Sure. Lets go."
