Topamax Seizure Medication

Topamax is a generic for Topiramate and is for mild attacks only. It is for partial seizures, not for extreme or full seizures. It keeps you from getting seizures if you take it as prescribed on a regular basis.

Topamax is an anticonvulsant medication that will prevent seizures in adults and children and has been approved to ease migraine headaches as well. It will not stop a headache while it is in progress. It will only prevent it from starting. It is also used for pain and to quit smoking and much more.

It is used for obesity problems, obsessive-compulsive disorder, traumatic stress disorder, and Lennux-Gastuant. It is the only medication that has been proven by the FDA after 1995 as a drug that can be taken alone, and will keep partial seizures from happening and help lose weight and not gain weight.

It can also help with autism and is great for temporal lobe dysfunctions. A person can have sixty or more seizures per month; that is an average of at least two per day. About 40% of adults with only partial seizures are taking four hundred – five hundred milligrams of Topamax in a day. Topamax can be mixed with other medications very well with no side effects, including hormonal contraceptive pills.

You don’t need to eat food when you take Topamax but you can. There will be no stomach problems if you don’t eat before you take the pill. Do not take Topamax if you have Asthma, Bronchitis, Emphysema, kidney or liver disease, a history of kidney stones, or if you have undergone surgery recently.

If you are pregnant, you need to speak with your doctor before taking Topamax because it may be harmful for your baby. If you have a nursing baby, you need to talk to your doctor as well because the medication may be able to be passed through the breast milk. To avoid side effects when you begin treatment with Topamax, you need to start at a low dose and gradually increase the dose until you have reached therapeutic levels.

Possible overdose symptoms can include: troubled thinking, loss of coordination, speech problems, fainting, convulsion, coma, excessive hunger, Pounding or irregular heartbeat, bone pain, depression, agitation, inability to respond to things around you, upset stomach, stomach pain, or vomiting.
