You don’t need to eat food when you take Topamax but you can. There will be no stomach problems if you don’t eat before you take the pill. Do not take Topamax if you have Asthma, Bronchitis, Emphysema, kidney or liver disease, a history of kidney stones, or if you have undergone surgery recently.
If you are pregnant, you need to speak with your doctor before taking Topamax because it may be harmful for your baby. If you have a nursing baby, you need to talk to your doctor as well because the medication may be able to be passed through the breast milk. To avoid side effects when you begin treatment with Topamax, you need to start at a low dose and gradually increase the dose until you have reached therapeutic levels.
Possible overdose symptoms can include: troubled thinking, loss of coordination, speech problems, fainting, convulsion, coma, excessive hunger, Pounding or irregular heartbeat, bone pain, depression, agitation, inability to respond to things around you, upset stomach, stomach pain, or vomiting.
