Listing out the top 10 TV shows of the decade is a tough job. There were so many great shows which came this decade and gave us so many wonderful memories. Here's a list of the 10 most popular TV shows on American TV.

Top 10 Best TV Shows of the Decade
You knew this list was about to get made someday. This list contains the name of the most top rated TV shows in the world. Almost all of them have won or have been nominated for TV awards. I am a guy who likes variety in entertainment and you will find that this list is a perfect mixture of all the genres of life.
Two and a Half Men, CBS
Charlie Sheen is fired from Two and a Half Men and the production is on hold for a variety of reasons, but that doesn't stop this show to get the top spot. Rated as one of the best comedy shows of all time, Two and a Half Men is something that every guy watches. It's a story about a drunken womanizer (Charlie Sheen) who is also a successful jingle writer. His life sees a new chapter when his loser younger brother (Jon Cryer) comes and stays with him with his son (Angus Jones).
Dexter, Showtime
Currently my favorite show, Dexter is a story about a blood spatter analyst who is also a serial killer. He hunts down other serial killers and bad guys, chops them and throws their bodies in the sea. Michael C hall plays the dark and dreamy Dexter. His acclaimed performance has won him a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Watch out how a serial killer adjusts into the sane human society.
Friends, NBC
It's a show which became a symbol for true friendship. All the six characters Monica, Ross, Rachael, Chandler, Joey and Phoebe made a special place in everyone's heart. The main story focuses on all six characters and all the different life experiences that they face together. The coffee shop Central Perk where all of them sat and had coffee has become a cultural landmark and many coffee shops around the world are modeled like Central Perk. The show ended in 2004 after 10 seasons but it's still remembered as one of the best TV shows that came on American TV.
Mad Men, AMC
Currently Mad Men is a favorite among critics and the crowd. The story is about the existential angst of an ad man of the 1960s'. Don Draper is an excellent writer and actor who is funny, shaded, caring and romantic. Watch Mad Men to see the genius.
Prison Break, Fox
The show ran from 2005 to 2009 and in just 4 seasons, Prison Break showed the world that there's no better place than prison to create thrillers. The highly acclaimed drama focuses on the story of two brothers and their turmoil riddled relationship. The elder brother is falsely accused of killing the brother of the Vice President of the United States and now the younger ones takes up the responsibility to get him out of his prison. The show was nominated for many awards and has received excellent reviews from critics all around.
24, Fox
The idea for 24 came after the creators saw the 9/11 attacks and BOOM, the most famous American spy Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) was born. With him came his dedicated team which makes sure that America remains safe from terrorist attacks. The show was packed with realism, super action packed stunts and proactive stories. Even the CIA took notes. 24 is credited to bring excitement to the small screen.
House, Fox
Coming at #7 on the list of top 10 TV shows of the decade is House. It's a medical drama in which the main character Dr. Gregory House is brutally rude. He has no sympathies for anyone and this selfish nature causes a lot of discomfort between him and his colleagues. The best part about this show is the high ego of Dr. House and the reaction which shows on his face when he is proved wrong.
The OC, Fox
"Welcome to the Dark Side." Hate me all you want but you cannot deny that The OC was one of the best TV shows of the decade. It ran a total of 4 seasons. The first season was the best and won the show many awards. But as the show advanced in the second season, its ratings declined and finally it saw its end in 2007. All the four characters Ryan, Marisa, Seth and Summer had become new teenage icons.
Weeds, Showtime
Recently widowed soccer mom, starts selling pot to maintain her family's rich Californian lifestyle; life becomes ugly. Weeds is a dark comedy with perfect characters who keep on adding all the regular elements and emotions of life.
Breaking Bad, AMC
I think the name alone is enough to make the show catch your eye. A high school chemistry teacher is suffering from lung cancer, so he strikes a partnership with his ex student who is now a drug dealer. He starts earning money by doing the wrong things. The show kept me on the edge of my seat every time it aired. Make sure you see it.
