Top Three Tips for Preparing for your Day in the Chair

A discussion on the top three things you can do to make sure that you have a good and memorable tattoo experience when the day for getting inked arrives.
The top three things we recommend you think about and concentrate in the days leading up to your day in the chair are making sure there is no alcohol in your system, maintaining a good mentality and snacks & water.

Lets go three each of these three areas and explore why they are important and why taking the time to consider these points will reward you with a spanking new tattoo plus a good experience in the chair to boot:

No Alcohol

The number one tattoo mistake is getting a tattoo when you are drunk, the reason it is a problem is simple, it leads you to make lots more tattoo mistakes. And they are:

Getting a tattoo that is too small

Getting a cheap and nasty tattoo

Getting a tattoo that is an ode to a lover

And last but not least being impulsive
At the end of the day if you go into a good parlor off you head on alcohol they probably aren’t going to give you a tattoo anyway.

This one is pretty straight forward, if you want a good tattoo, let alone your dream tattoo, only visit the parlor only when you are sober.

Not only can alcohol lead you to make bad decisions when it comes to your tattoo it also dehydrates you, and that means it dehydrates your skin and if you skin is not in the best of health when your tattoo is applied it only means one thing. That it is going to take longer heal and if your skin is not plump and hydrated and supple the ink in your tattoo won’t be able to sink in to your skin as well it might if it was properly hydrated.

Maintaining a Good Mentality

If you want to really make sure that you have a great tattoo experience so you can enjoy your new tattoo even more it really is important that you have a good mentality going into the parlor and while you are in the chair.

Your mentality on the day probably has the greatest influence as to the outcome of your new tattoo.

How does one create a good mentality on the day ?

You need to be in a good physical and emotional place. Being in a good physical place just comes down to being fit and relaxed on the day and eating the right foods. So you might want to go for a good hour walk each day for a week leading up to your tattoo day.

And as for the right foods you want to be relaxed on the day so probably stay away from the black tea and coffee and sodas and soft drinks and energy drinks, so you don’t have lots of sugar and caffeine in your system.

As for ensuring you are in a good emotional place this one is not quite as simple as exercise and eating the right thing, although they will be a big help in getting your there. But this point is more about not getting your tattoo if you have just run over your cat for instance or just broken up with your partner of five years.

So if something big has just happened that is going to throw you off emotionally it’s probably best to postpone your day in the chair for a few days.

Snacks and Water

It is always best to eat a good meal before you head into the tattoo parlor. The satisfaction of having a full stomach and not being hungry will do you the world of good in terms of calming your nerves and allowing you to relax.

As for water, you need to make sure that your skin is nice and healthy and properly hydrated. This way your skin will be less stressed on the day and it will be able to heal properly and quickly.

And don’t be afraid to take in some snacks and lots of water. You need to make sure that you feel really comfortable and relaxed and if that means having your favorite snack or brand of bottled water then so be it. What ever you can do to plan ahead will be greatly rewarded on the day with a good and relaxed tattoo experience.
