Amboseli is located below Mt. Kilimanjaro and provides a picturesque scene of wildlife on a backdrop of a snow-capped mountain in the tropics. The park is famous for its docile elephants. This article tries to evaluate the accomodation available in the park to make your choice easier.
1. Amboseli Serena safari Lodge
The Amboseli Serena safari lodge has a spectacular setting in a copse of giant acacia trees beside a natural spring in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro.
The Mountain, with its snow-capped peaks, 6,000 meters high, presides over a landscape containing more big game than almost anywhere in Africa.
The lodge adopts Maasai architecture and is designed to harmonise perfectly with the environment. There are 96 beautifully appointed rooms with authentic African Murals.
Guests are invited to plant trees from where elephants have destructed. The lodge has a swimming pool with mountain spring water. Other activities on offer are game drives, sundowners on observation hill, tribal dancing, musical evenings and visits to local Maasai manyattas (homesteads).
2. Amboseli Ol Tukai Lodge
Ol Tukai lodge lies hidden in a forest of fever trees and palms at the heart of Amboseli National Park about 270 km south of Nairobi.
Located at the foot of snow capped Mount Kilimanjaro, Amboseli is one of the best places in Africa for viewing elephants as well as cheetah, gazelle, giraffe, leopard and lion. Birdlife is too prolific here.
The lodge has 80 luxury rooms in cottage style, single storey blocks made of wood, local stone and slate. Each room has fine views of either the wetlands or Kilimanjaro. There are two double rooms for disabled and elderly guests and wheel chair ramps are provided. There is also a three bed roomed house with verandahs and a spacious living for that ultimate luxury.
Activities from the lodge include, early and late afternoon game drives; bird walks and rambles; and Maasai entertainment in the evening.
Lodge has a dining room, two bars as well as swimming pool and conference facilities.
3. Amboseli Lodge
The Amboseli lodge is situated at the Ol Tukai area, offering a spectacular view of the majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro. It is set on amongst lush tropical gardens and tranquil ponds; this lodge is a veritable oasis in the dramatically arid surroundings and the Amboseli National Park. Walking the lodge grounds guarantees close encounters with numerous species of birds, vervet monkeys and occasional baboons.
The lodge has the highest standards of service combined with the old world (colonial style) bungalows and more modern with traditional styled bedroom blocks providing a rustic ambience in the heartland of the nomadic Maasai people.
