Headaches
When you sleep too much, you'll feel a lingering headache the next day. This headache lasts throughout the day. It gets very annoying and painful. If this happens on a regular basis, there are chances of this headaches turning into something that can be permanent and painful. Thus, too much sleep and headache are related.
Fatigue
Contrary to the popular belief, oversleeping can make you feel fatigued and tired throughout the day. Regular fatigue which cannot be pinned on any other reasons, could be caused due to oversleeping. Too much sleep makes you tired. You do not feel fresh and most of the day you are listless and dull.
Mild Depression
Depression is another symptom of too much sleep. Feeling dull and listless can cause depression. If this is not treated in time, this mild depression can blow out of proportion. If you feel a little depressed for no reason at all, it could be due to oversleeping. It is recommended that you stop sleeping too much so as not to fall into a greater depression.
Sleeping Disorder
You can easily start suffering from sleep disorders when you oversleep. Oversleeping for a day or two, does not change your sleeping cycle. However, when you sleep too much for a long time, it is not difficult to suffer from sleep disorders.
Lack of Concentration
If you continue to oversleep for a number of days, it will hardly be surprising that you will find difficulty concentrating at the task at hand. Lack of concentration is also one of the symptoms of sleeping too much. As mentioned above, there is a certain listlessness and dullness that you may face for the entire day, due to over sleeping. This causes a lack in concentration. If you find that you cannot focus on your daily activities, then you may be showing the symptom of sleeping too much.
Effects of Oversleeping
Diabetes
Diabetes is an important side effect of sleeping too much. Almost 50 per cent of the people who over sleep, are at a greater risk of suffering from diabetes. Getting too much sleep leads to diabetes.
Obesity
Needless to say, too much sleeping leads to obesity. People who sleep too much can gain a lot of weight. This weight gain is also a result of the sluggishness that they face. This sluggishness induces them to eat more, thus increasing the weight.
Back Pain
Back pain is the result of inactivity caused due to sleeping too much. If not treated in time, this back pain can increase into something critical.
Heart Diseases
When there is over sleeping, there is no activity. This inactivity is an invitation to various heart diseases. Needless to say heart diseases can turn fatal when they are ignored and allowed to grow.
As mentioned earlier, seven to eight hours of sleep is enough for healthy people. If you feel that you do not feel fresh after eight hours of sleep and feel like you need some more sleep, it is necessary to consult a doctor for the same. The doctor may be able to diagnose the problem. It is necessary to get treated in time. Hence, do not hesitate to go to the doctor if you show any of the above mentioned symptoms as too much sleep is bad for you. Timely treatment can prevent a bigger problem.
