Toga Costumes for Women
Toga costumes for women are seeing a lot of popularity these days. Why? Well, they are pretty and mysterious. Enough of describing them, read the article to know all about them!

History of Toga Costumes
The traditional male attire of Rome was known as togas. It was basically a 6 feet long cloth wrapped around the body. Men used to wear a tunic underneath the toga. Originally, however, togas were made of wool, and the tunics beneath them, of linen. Women used to wear stolas. Stolas were the female counterparts of togas and was a long pleated dress worn over a tunic. A barely known fact, is that it was considered disgraceful for a Roman woman to wear a toga. A woman wearing a toga was considered a prostitute. The Stola, is in fact the attire worn by the Statue of Liberty!
Toga Costumes Today
History being in its place, times have changed. Today, toga parties are held everywhere, and women love dressing up in toga attire (which is actually stola attire). More than anything else, these costumes, today, are known for their mystery and seduction. I am serious here! Toga costumes, inherently look flattering and sexy on all women and men. Even though togas where originally white, for the purpose of a party, they can be on any color. However, pastels are preferred. You can, nonetheless, be a rebel and go for a deeper or darker color. For the purpose of costume creation, today, even Egyptian and Greek ancient attires are considered as toga. This brings Aphrodite and Cleopatra in the party arena as well.
Creating Toga Costumes for Women
Making a toga (I still prefer to call it stola) costume for women, is not difficult. I will help you out with a basic design for a toga costume for women. Once you have mastered this one, you can try a range of variations.
Step #1: Buy about 6 feet of cloth. Any free-flowing material will be fine.
Step #2: Pin one end to your waist. Not the skin of your waist obviously, maybe with your shorts underneath.
Step #3: Wrap the cloth around your waist once. It is preferred to be above the knees or till them.
Step #4: Pin it at the waist again. (look at step #2)
Step #5: Now let the rest go over your shoulder. Make sure you cover your self with it appropriately.
Step #6: Pin it at your waist from the back as well.
Step #7: Take the rest and roll it around your arm.
Mostly, women prefer to wear a halter or spaghetti top inside. A neutral colored halter top would go better. It will give the toga (STOLA) a more genuine look. Couple this with sandals (high heels will be fine) and golden bangles. You can try anklets and armlets as well. Leave your hair open or tie them up, depending on what suits you the most. Go more for eye make up and lesser color on the lips. Wear a leafy halo (if you can find one), if you want. This is a very basic design. Once you know how to do this one, you can try out a few variations here and there. For women the stola can be ankle length as well. However, I have seen toga costumes for women being preferred to be as short as possible.
Toga parties are fun. Like I have already said, they have a mysterious and seductive atmosphere which you might want to be part of. Hope you enjoy the party in your one of the toga costumes for women. I'm heading off to a party now. This is where I sign off! Enjoy!
